Default Build your own z06

Thought this was interesting. Buy a z06 and for 6 grand you can hang out and build your own motor:

What a fantastic scam!

For 6 grand you come to our plant. Transportation, housing and meals are on your own dime. We put a babysitter with you to watch you put your own engine together, saving us the cost and manpower of assembling it for you.

I should start doing that in my business. You buy a pool table from me, which includes intallation in the price, for a mere $500 extra I'll watch you load, transport and assemble the table yourself. I'll even put a plaque on it that says you did it yourself. Think of the extra pride of ownership.

It's brilliant.

That's probably why they charge 6k. They're pretty sure the motor will break and buy charging you 6k you've already paid for the replacement.

It's like those "vacations" where you go to Italy and pay a few grand to work on a farm for a week or two while you pick ingredients, and receive instructions from chefs on how to prepare your own meals. You do the work but pay for the experience.

I seriously doubt the motor builders at the Corvette factory are going to let you **** anything up. That gig isn't just handed out to anyone. The guys who work there have a lot more pride going into the finished product than you would find on the assembly line for the Malipoo or Impala-shot-calla.

Hell I would too, I agree it's nothing more than a money making scheme by GM but Id still do it if I could.

Paying someone to show a guy who's never done it before how to build an engine is not lower-cost than having a guy who's done it hundreds of times do it again.

I think this is a great point, what your paying for is the time you take away from that engine builder and the use of GM's tools, there is no way they are making a lot money off of it.

I'd do it if I had the coin. I'd slip in with ARP head studs in my pocket though.
