Somehow I find that difficult to believe. For as long as the camera sat on the burning Ferarri afterwards with nothing happening, I have to think that he was either killed on impact, or at the very least incapacitated / knocked unconscious. If he'd been awake and coherant he'd have been trying like mad to get the hell out of that car. But for what seemed like all eternity there was no indication of movement in the vehicle, nobody coming to his aid, no track safety workers, no fire extinguishers, nothing. Even putting aside the burns, I don't see how a person could sit in that inferno for that long and not suffer fatal respiratory damage.

probably knocked out...they wear full fire suits, everything is fire proof...so its not like he was sitting there on fire, just in fire, but i understand what you are saying, it seems highly unlikey...but i've seen some pretty messed up **** and they live every now and then, if that makes sense

Naa he was alive, there more to the movie where u see him get out smoldering.
The official tries to make him walk away but the driver collapses. Theres a photo somewhere online of his helmet.

Edit: Here it is http://youtube.com/watch?v=QlXqyLoABYQ

Wow. First time I've seen the second half of that footage. Can't even think of a word to describe that.
