Why don't I have a more regular presence on the Miataturbo forum? There are only so many hours in the day, unfortunately. And it's a very hostile environment for anyone from FM. I have a pretty thick skin - 14 years in the online Miata community will do that - but even then it's hard to shrug off a lot of the attacks. I take what I do very seriously, and that means I don't just blow off criticism. I prefer to be a member of communities where I can actually be a member, not just a target of abuse. That's one reason I spend so much time on the Grassroots forum, it's a group of people working together instead of a constant conflict.
I'll see if I can manage a bit more time here. Who knows, maybe people's attitudes will change.
As for catering to DIYers, we've always made our components available individually. If you want something as simple as a stainless steel stud or a turbo/downpipe combination, we'll supply it. We're just not set up for custom work like BEGi is.
There are no plans at this point to offer a stripped-out kit to lower the price. We include what we believe is necessary for a complete turbo setup in our kits.

makes sense...
if you take a few moments and browse the WTB section you will quickly see what is in demeand for the DIY'ers and you know whether it would make sense for you to sell that item or even market it for the DIY crowd
ex: Mani/DP combo...i want to source my own turbo, but i want a good mani and dp and i cant fab worth a ****...i would go to the guy who has a mani/dp combo for sale at a reasonable price...BEGi or FM or whoever else...

jayc72, you're right. The more we can stuff in the online catalog, the better. I'll try to improve that, but the number of parts gets overwhelming and we often find that we're better able to help answer questions when we know the specific application. For example, a car with a 1999 motor swap looking for IC to throttle body pipes will use a combination of parts to make everything work depending on what was swapped with the motor.

so a simple note to DIY'ers such as "attn. DIY'ers, if you need certain parts from FM, please call/email for pricing and availablity and a 75% discount for being so awesome"
you dont need a full list of parts and prices, that takes away from the aspect of selling and customer service
simply letting the community know what you have to offer, those who are really interested will step forward...window shoppers will browse forums and ask other people what they paid...lol
id really like to see FM become a bigger part of this community since you guys are very knowledgable and experienced (we all know that), now just show us (those who dont frequent Mnet) that your heads are not over inflated (like i hear people say) and that you are here to help us boost the **** out of our cars
i am willing to put $$ forth that the attacks/bomb threats/booty calls will seize to an extent now that you are here to speak for yourself/FM

The most difficult or risky part is most that are DIY are cheap bastards with a lot of time on "our" hands. You'll probably be slamed because of the cost of some of the components. "FM charges how much for a radiator hose?!?"

FM has always offered these parts...its no secret they sell the Manifold and DP, and it's typically suggest that one simply picks up a phone and call ask ask for availabitly or what they can offer you.
For example...you may need an oil drain kit...you could 1. go to the site and find said parts, and if they aren't listed online 2. call them and see what they can do.

The problem there is that the GReddy kits use a different hose diameter than ours do IIRC. If someone can work with us to identify what would be needed, we might be able to do it. We've sold a bunch of drain kits to DIYers, but again it has to be a turbo that can be fitted with a 5/8" hose.
