Well, thar's yer prablem.

Is it just the one rod and crank? Anything else salvageable at all? That's damn impressive. I was sure something was broken. How much of the bearing is missing?

That engine was seriously the most frighting thing I've ever heard actually start and run in person.

I haven't pulled the other rods off yet to check for spun bearings. The main bearings were full of the bits of the number 3 rod bearing which was nonexistent in the rod

This crank is actually the one out of the pick n pull block, so we may yet see some broken rod carnage!

Oh lawd. In4more EJ25 carnage.

I keep thinking "Is that rebuildable?" but then I remember that is not the goal here

i installed the cable driver, romraider, and definitions and it works perfect on my ancient xp laptop. no fidling with baud rates, or com ports, it just worked.

i swapped coil and plug 1 and 3, and logged a log. what are you guys using for viewing? my computer made megalogviewer the default program and it seems to work. but for some reason my log got cut short and the timescale in megalog is screwy. in either case i registered 5 misfires on cylinder 1, and none on the other 3 cylinders! although i honestly dont trust that log, this is looking like a bad coil. i wanted to verify with the CEL and AP1 that i now have a P0301, but the CEL reset itself right before i pulled in the driveway. im going to go log some more and see if i can trip the CEL again.

for reference:
the cable is made by VTooLand and has "KKL VAG-COM for 409.1 CE" written on it, its blue, the driver disc has a panda on it. it goes by many different model numbers on ebay and amazon. the only drawback is that its on the short side, just barely long enough to be able to sit the laptop in the pass seat.

lolwut? you opened the log with MLV? that's so awesome, I didn't even think of that before. I'm gonna try that later

I usually use RR logger and if I need to graphs (rather than just raw numbers in exel) I use airboy ss and some other one I found a while ago. Normally just look at the log in exel tho

the log cant be more that a minute long and it says its 13,000 seconds, and the minimum values dont look right. but yes it opens in MLV

so that log must have been corrupted or something. i did a couple logs yesterday and the minimum values populated and it actually logged the full time span. still a few glitches in MLV, the time scale is still crazy. this log was about 30 seconds but it says something like 60k seconds(was wondering if RR logs in millisecond or 1/2 millisecond intervals). also it says im idling at 4-5 psi and peaking at 30psi of boost, that could also be because i clicked the wrong logging parameter in RR, as there were 3 MAP values, and i didnt choose the "relative" or "corrected" one. so im guessing this is a raw number that means nothing other than a delta. AFRs seem to go stupid rich under boost, but normal for a subaru yes? it dips under 11, although by how much i dont know because as mentioned earlier, stock o2 wont read below 11. at least its not going the other way and running lean.

the problem clearly moved from cylinder 3 to 1 when i swapped coils and plugs. i replaced plugs 1 and 3 for ***** and it made a substantial improvement. i can get another 1k of rpm before it starts missing, and it doesnt miss as much. the plugs with about 40k on them had a noticeably larger gap than the new ones. these motors really eat up plugs i guess. this all points to a weak coil. i have a replacement on the way.

heres a better SS

after choosing about 30 parameters, i was getting a 14-15Hz refresh rate. so im convinced this cable is great for logging purposes at the least. writing with it has yet to be tested.

while fuking with all this i discovered i need a pass side valve cover gasket too. ive been wondering where that smell had been coming from. so as soon as i get this fixed for sure, ill be ordering radiator and some gaskets.

you want manifold relative pressure (corrected) to log boost
glad you're getting closer to fixing the miss
they are well in the 10's afr up top, pig rich.

Tuned a '13 wrx on e85 at full tilt last night.
Wasn't gonna post about it but then Mr. Corky Bell decided to make a troll thread attempting to justify his insane claims about torque vs fuel requirements.

Thing absolutely rips. This is at full 100% tilt, couldn't make more power no matter what.

And I lost my cable for my OFT. No E85 tune yet.

Really tempted to order headers/overpipe, but I have a feeling I'm going to get boned on my taxes again this year.

Question for you Scoobydoo guys:

There's a local guy selling an 05 Legacy GT wagon w/5 speed.

He's asking $11k. Really clean car, 164k on the odometer, 67k on motor (guy's kid blew the engine up, took the car away from him, made it a DD). BC coilovers, Magnaflow cat back, new BOV, and in 2014 new battery, tires, rear wheel bearings, ac condenser, belts, plugs, valve cover gaskets.

What do you guys think that car is actually worth? $11k sounds absurdly high for that car.

11k for an 05? maybe more like 9-10, probably closer to 9 at that mileage. And if it has a vent to air BOV I wouldnt pay more than 6k.

Too much $. I got my 05 in early 2012, with 48k, in fantastic condition, engine bay was immaculate, 1 owner, always garage kept, with well over 3k in tasteful mods, all the factory parts in a box, red line shock proof in the gear box and diff, for 13k.
