Default On dreams, generally...

I don't usually remember dreams.

Of late, for whatever reason, I can clearly recall three this past week.

The first, I was in my apartment (53rd floor, facing north / east with Lake Michigan just outside), and there was a party. Not a frat party, just respectable people, Hors d'oeuvres, Frank Sinatra, and Martinis. I felt the floor shake and the building quiver and creak. Being a former Californian, and accustomed to earthquakes,I thought "that was cool." Then water splashed in around the lake-facing windows (again, 53rd floor, and >200 meters from shore.) Then the building began to collapse straight down. I felt the floor drop out from beneath me, and became weightless in the chaos, with olives and spanakopita flying everywhere. I thought "I'm going to die. This is what it must have been like for Steve Jacobsen*." Except that we never hit bottom. Just kept falling.

The second, I parked at the airport and went into the terminal. Realized I'd forgotten something, and went back out to the parking garage. I found that someone had broken into my car, except they hadn't stolen or damaged anything, just lowered the top and the windows. Put everything back up, went back to the terminal, and for some reason had to go out to my car again. This time, the top was down and the front and rear bumpers had been removed. Not stolen, just unbolted and left on the ground. Re-assembled the car, went back to the terminal, and then felt a need to go back out to the car yet again. This time, the top was down, the bumpers removed, the seats had been unbolted (but left in place), the dashboard was sitting on the ground to the left of the car, etc. Again, nothing was missing or damaged, and all the parts were neatly laid out along with all the hardware. But someone was clearly ******* with me. Re-assembled the car yet again, went back to the terminal, and thought "I guess I'll have to buy a Civic."

The third, I was walking out of the TV station, and I must have been leaving work early (early = 5pm), as the sun hadn't totally set yet. Then, off in the distance, I saw a flash of light and a mushroom cloud. And the only thought that went through my mind was "well, ****."

Not unusual given the part of the country I live in (Tornado Alley) but I've had a recurring dream for the last 20-odd years.

Some version of, I'm trapped in a house/car/etc situation with no means to leave with a monster tornado bearing down of said trapped location.
