So I'm beginning to look for a place where I can work on my car during the winter, and give it some much needed attention. Have no place to work on it at home, and friends/family are of no help since they obviously have their own need.

Was wondering if anyone has used one of those Public Storage places for doing actual work to their cars. They have ground level/driveup spaces as big as 10x20 for -$150 a month.

Any other interesting alternatives/suggestions welcome. Obviously been on CL looking for a private garage and whatnot. Everything is too small (avg here is 12x15) or too expensive $200++ a month.

TIA

I think you would have much better luck, depending on what part of NY you are in, looking for local businesses that have large buildings. I did that last year and pay $250 for 6 months. I called the storage places and there was no way I was going to pay $150 a month.

I'm in Staten Island, but the space doesn't need to be as prices tend to be steep around here. Been looking into NJ and Brooklyn.

Thats exactly what they are asking for the Public Storage space, $125 for the 10x20. No power (lady says I may be able to have access to an outlet if I have a long enough extension cord). 1st month is $1.00

And the thing is, although the space could work for me it'd involve some considerable compromises. Such as good chance of no power/lighting, lil on the small side for the car + tools + parts +room to work on the car, and without power comes no space heater as well...and of course $125 isn't exactly cheap either...

If you guys know of anything please chime in, I'll try and hit up some local business's but don't really know of any with free space. And if so I'm sure $250 for 6months would get laughed at.
