Default get my miata running 12s!!!

how do i get the 92 miata im about to buy running 12s. my 2 buddies bought miatas and one is putting a 302 in it and is planning on hitting 11s.... and i wanna hit 12s or atleast 13s.... as cheaply as possible and while still having a daily driver... is there anyone out there that can let this first time miata owner know wut i should expect?

im planning on doing intake, the greddy turbo, front mount, exhaust dump in the front, light 15" wheels, taking out power steering, taking out the speakers and stereo... maybe racing seats... maybe ditching passenger seat all together.... maybe a lighter flywheel and racing clutch... idk... let me know what you guys think... estimated costs... anything helps... i'd even spray if needed...

wheres philip with that banstick when you need him...

Man just search and read, theres so much ******* information here and on the "other" miata site you should have no problem figuring out what is needed.

Btw miatas dont make the greatest drag cars and dont expect it to be cheap either.

to get the miata in the 12's will be costly pretty much any angle try. with the exception of n2o, turbo is the budget way to go, even there you're going to be at the limits of a stock engine.

You need about 200rwhp, some slicks or drag radial, and some practice at the track. 210-220 would be even better. You don't need to gut the car. How can it be a daily driver and gutted? that makes no sense. TO most , daily driver means seats, stereo and some typ0e of comfort.

Buy a $200 ebay turbo and add plenty of fuel.

Tie a rope to your friends 302!!!

I know this isn't what you are asking, and I would love to know the answer myself, but he is going to win that battle dollar for dollar...... But he is going to wish he had a miata he could afford to drive around town.

Ive had mustangs bang for buck. I can get a 88 5.0 with some new and alot of used parts into the 12's for probably $2000. But it only sreams straight.
It is like a turd on rollerskates with a rocket attached around a curb. And with his weight in the front it will be the same way.

The curb " That is Where the Force will Lye..."
ps all you need to get a 5.0 mustang into the 12's is 290rwhp, 373 gears, and slicks. And you can just about get that by farting in the intake.

He"ll be lucky to get 13-15 mpg on the highway.
If he put a 5-speed in it he might get 18 with babying. Thats not much car to move.
Anything that pulls 11's no mater what the platform will break things.

I would just put the greddy on it and keep it dependable.

If you want to run the drag track you can buy a shity 5.0 for 1000-1500. Put a cheap seal a ring kit and your good. Buy thumper heads (ported factory and estimated to pull twelves with this set up), find a used rear end with 373 or 410 gears, homade X-pipe exhaust, gasket port match your intake, good cam and slicks.

And you still have a way bad *** miata too. 2 toys is better than one.

The fastest and cheapest way to get into the 10's, buy a used sportbike with your extra money. You won't even have to work on it.
I have a custom Zx9R fully pollished, & new paint and only 5800 miles for $4200.00.
Lowered, it will pull 9.9's. You can dog the **** out of a sportbike and they never ever ever break. Just keep up the recomended maintenace. and they will go 100,000 miles. Don't set the valves every 15,000 miles and they will blow up at the 30,000 mark.....

I couldn't even get a date and with the bike turned into a MAN_WHORE! I finnaly felt fake *****......

I just learned not to drag my daily driver the hard way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's either intake OR turbo kit.... dont waste your money taking it step by step, because it really doesn't help... just adds on to the budget you're on

turbo kits should run you around 2000$ no matter how you look at it, you'll always need to add-on... so expect AT LEAST 2000

spraying will probably kill your engine, tranny and rear diff.... at least that's how i feel.....

also, the more power you plant, the more broken stuff you should expect.... do some reading and you'll find out the 1.6 rear diff is like glass, along with the 5-speed tranny, both above a certain torque limit.... you should expect high 13's with around 200HP or so

you guys give these 302 miatas more credit than they deserve....

it takes a 377 plus a 100 shot to get a high 11 with 1.8 60' times.

ill be the nice guy and say welcome to the dark side
what everyone is meaning to say in a polite way is that tons of people come here and ask questions about how to make the fastest miata when most times they are not serious nor realistic and we all get pissed of and OP usually gets the Ban stick
your goals are not unrealistic, but the way you want to get there is...
you dont need to gut your car to the core, its only appx. 2200lbs fully equipped, lol
loose the PS and AC keep passanger seat, what the hell do you need a car for if you cant take anyone with you to scare them? get a bike FTW...
forget the greddy kit...piece together your own **** after you do extensive research on this site...i spent about 6 months on here reading before i even became a member...so go figure, TONS of info or you already there, just read along little one, lol
you will have to buy a clutch, the cheaper alternative is Clutchnet red 2x with sprung clutch...you choose...flywheel not really important on a turbo car..you do not need to spray it...

now the question is, will you do any of the things suggested or will you just proceed and do what you wanted?
