Kraft Shells and Cheese is the best. Mac and cheese of any brand that starts with powdered "cheese" is FTL.

Yes. I completely agree. The pouch liquid cheese is the only way to go.

There is nothing I could possibly say here that wouldn't get me banned. Let's just say that I respectfully disagree.

you're all wrong. none of these products use legitimate cheese in them! until you've had mac and cheese made with honest to god hunks of cheese from a cow's or goat's udder, you're nothin.

You are right, my wife makes a nice scratch five cheese, but I'm guessing the OP wasn't going to have a wife to whip that up when drunk. In his case, I still stand behind my original suggestion of Kraft Shells and Cheese as "best from a box".

There's a brand called Annie's that's pretty good. It's got powdered cheese but somehow they made it taste more like real cheese. If you're limited to boxed meals, it beats either of the Kraft offerings.

Very true. However, i have made drunken macaroni without using the box kind. I mean, the pasta came from a box but i added the milk cheese and butter. It was the best macaroni and cheese i've ever had the pleasure of consuming.

How do you guys get real cheese to stick to the macaroni? I've tried it and it never comes out worth a sheet.

Make a bechamel, melt in your cheese...toss to coat, cover with some buttered breadcrumbs, bake it off

I just cut the cheese into small cubes and add it to the cooled pasta. I normally use Chedder, Velvetta, and some pepper jack.

and if you're mr wizard, you can use an egg to keep the cheese emuslfied so it doesn't turn into glop.

Or have your wife make it. I'm useless in the kitchen. Between marriages, in three years I cooked exactly TWO meals. Ate out lunch and dinner every single day.
