Child seat in miata
#4
We're expecting a girl in July and recently had this discussion:
Me: I can't wait to take her in the miata when she's old enough to enjoy it
Wife: No you're not.
Me: Why not?
Wife: It doesn't have back seats!
Me: Why does that matter?
Wife: The airbags will kill her!
Me: The airbags are sitting on the shelf in the garage
Wife: *Eyeroll* I hate you *Walks away*
So I could be wrong, but I think I won the argument.

@pdexta Lol. I think you're good.
Since I have two small kids I can't take my wife for rides very often anymore. My 3 year old absolutely loved it. I have only been able to drive the miata alone up until recently, or forced to take the "family car". This has opened up all sorts of possibilities for me.

I have the passenger Airbag switch so I turned it off for the car seat. My kids loved going for rides in the car. So open and airy for them. They're patiently waiting for me to get it back on the road. What was fun was going highway speed in the rain with my son and staying dry (a stream would collect at the top rear corner of the windows and we'd get some of that on us).

Took my significant others' daughter for a ride last night. Her little booster seat looked like a racing bucket (she'll be 5 in two months). Top was up, as were the windows, since it was about 40* out.
"When I'm a good driver and get my license, I want a car just like yours with no back! It'll be pink and shiny, and we can build it together at (Name of my Shop)."
I nearly cried.

Since we got got kids I kept adding Miatas to the garage...
You can't ride with a kid AND your wife in the Miata, have to get another Miata (or rid of the wife, but that was not an option...).
As kids start growing up - well one day they might want a Miata of their own (as they fricking love to ride in the cars) - get more Miatae...
So my daughter had a word in keeping the Montego blue colour of my latest "project" Miata - as one day it might be hers (she's turning 10 now)
We drove with the kids in the Miata as soon as they got "right direction" child seats. The airbags are a serious threat with a backwards seat, I don't think they are so dangerous with a "normal" child seat and a correctly attached seat belt.
The formula is quite easy "childs+Miata=love"

The NBs all have the shutoff-switch for the passenger airbag, so my kids will get to ride in the miata frequently I imagine. I don't have kids, so I don't know how frequently yet, but we'll find out someday most likely.

Wife and I had the same discussion. She was more concerned that I'd get a ticket than anything else, because kids under 10 are supposed to be in the back seat. I told her there is no back seat, so it was okay. She now lets me take him in the car.
One time I took him out in it, a cop was at the same gas station while I was filling up. He saw my son (who was 6 or 7 at the time), and came up to the car, only to ask my son if he liked riding in it. We talked about Miatas for a while, with no mention of any violations.
