How much of a ragged out piece of **** would an E39 have to be to make it $3,500? 285k miles and flaked off paint and beat up interior? All of the E39's around here in the $5,000 range are rough and either have over 200k miles or have been "modified" (riced out).

I hate to say it, but especially in CT, a Buick with fwd would be a very sensible choice. They are so comfortable to drive in, both in front and in back. The fwd is way more practical for us in the N.E. than a Grand Marquis with rwd.

I'm gonna get the car from a state auction which I could get a 5-6k for 3k....

And yes the e39 540i was on my first post and I love them. I think it says class but not snoty

Eh. If you can find a good condition E39 go for it, but even for $5,000 I can't see finding one without high mileage or condition problems. I would rather have a low mileage and good condition late E34, though that would be even harder to find than the low mileage E39 for that price. Either way, some kind of 5 series would be my choice no doubt. I guess it's the classic round headlight look I like about the E34.

Fun to drive
4dr would be ideal but I could do 2dr as long as it as back seats
Leather a plus
Has to look like I'm not poor

Cars that come to mind 2000 BMW 540i, 2001 vw passat, 2000 Saab 9-5.
I'm a new real estate agent and I'm going to be selling houses from $300,000-$1,000,000 so I'm not in the poor area or the rich area, more like middle class so I don't need a Bently.

Let me know what comes to mind
I detect lots of fail in this post.
you want a cheap pos car that looks expensive?
You sell houses for up to 1 MIL and can only afford 3500 for a car? You plan to "not look poor" in a sub 4k car?

No offense man, but if every criteria in this post is met let me know cause I want 2 of those.

Poor to me would be a 1990 civic, a 2001 passat or 2000 Saab 9-5 or 2000 540i is not poor.

It's a 1.8 thank you, that's worth 10% more. A lot of times I wait till no one is looking to get in my car.

Drive your wife's MDX and get her something else. Unless your wife has a job where her car is important, it makes much more sense for you as a real estate agent who needs it for the space for clients, signs, etc...

Trust me, I'm married too so I know the whole give the wife a nice car thing, but this is a different story as your car is not just a point A to point B need, it's part of your business/job.

300K to 1M is now middle class? I am way behind the curve.

Any 5 series for 4K is likley either very used or as issues. Get a Crown Vic.

I think that's what I'm gonna have to do. It's funny how the men always get screwed when it comes to cars in a marriage

Yes, CT is one of the most expensive states. It sucks that with 200k I could buy a piece of **** here and in Texas I could get a nice big new house.

No ****!

I have trouble convincing my wife on expenses just to keep my car MAINTAINED. She thinks everything I buy is just because I want to...but doesn't flinch on putting the nicest Michelins on her chariot.

Tougher when cars are your hobby I guess.

I'm about to have to start laying that pimp hand down strong...

It does suck hardcore up here. I know me and my fiance are looking at getting out of our condo and the houses we are looking at are in the 300-325 range which doesn't get you all that much. 300k in most parts of CT are where the houses start to get decent, under that most of them are old ranches from the the 70's and 80's. Well thats at least that how it seems to me.

What comes to mind? You're young and dumb. No matter what car you drive, you will be a 23 year old and that will show on your face. That sounds like a good plan to be selling 300k-1M houses year one. Great plan. I would bet that you'll be lucky to get one sale every six months unless you have connections up the wazoo.

Your car won't be getting you deals, you will. Just get an Accord. Even if you buy the perfect car, you will have to be hustling like mad to make sales.

Try to find a late 90's Audi A4... I got my 2001 for $5700. It's even the 1.8T Quattro model.
