So, are they just stress testing the exhaust with rediculous egts? It doesn't really seem like an appropriate tune if there's that much fuel being burnt in the exhaust, or if the exhaust valves open that early

At night, just do a top speed run on the highway or run through the gears a bunch of times, then pull over and pop the hood. Your turbo and exhaust mani will be glowing. I might grab a picture next time. It's even possible even you're NA.

I'd love to see what happened if they took a waterhose to those when they're glowing that hot. Anyone ever seen metal shatter?

No joke... I recently bought some inconel bolts for a project at work... something like $180/ea for 5/8-11x2.25" bolts. I ordered about 50 of them.

That stuff is one step away from replacing diamonds in the jewelry expense food chain.
