Default Electrical/lighting issue! Help please!

I was leaving work tonight after a long, bullshit, and late day. As I pull out of the parking lot I get on the throttle a bit and get the rear end bounce from what I guess is worn out diff bushings. At that time I see what looks like a flash bulb going off in front of my car. It scared me a bit and I didn't realize what had happened until a few seconds later. Both low beams and one of my fog lights blew out at the same time. I hate electrical issues, and have really thought about it hard since then and can come up with no real explanation. I guess it's either a power surge from the alternator (what would cause that?) or a short circuit somewhere.

The fogs and headlights are on independent circuits from the rest of the car, and from one another. So that says to me it almost has to be some sort of power surge/spike. What causes this? I already have a new alternator standing by that I never installed when I got it about 6 months ago. I guess I'll be tackling that just in case. There went around $100 of bulbs I just got a few weeks ago.

Ideas, smarter than me when it comes to electricity, people?
