Question Help me pick a turbo for my 2000 S4!

About 3 months ago I picked up a 2000 Audi B5 S4 Stage III. It currently has a dual FMIC, k04 turbo's, 60lb injectors, stock engine boosting to 20 psi on 93 my guess making 425-450 whp. It's no joke.

This is my daily but I'm planning on going to a single turbo withing the next year or so and going to buy a spare engine and build the bottom end(3.0 crank, pistons/rods, 2.8 heads) I'd like to have 700-800 whp with street gas .

I've been looking at some of the larger turbo's and it seems like I'm going to have to run 25+ lbs of boost to make those kind of numbers based on my knowledge of reading compressor maps and that just wont fly with street gas.

So far these are the turbos I've looked at so please tell me if I'm correct or just an idiot.

BW EFR 9180
GTX4202R
Precision PT7175

I wanted to note that I have considered posting this in an Audi forum but it's nice to get an outside perspective sometimes and a lot of Audi guys are only familiar with what they know. Most no nothing outside of Audi/VW stuff from what I seen.

Thanks for the help and feel free to recommend anything I havent posted or mentioned.

Unless you have some mad tuning and fabrication skills, you should contact one of the major V.A.G. tuners.

Spend the $12,000-$20,000 and let them pioneer a solution for you.

I believe that a company called VAST had made a single turbo S4. But good luck finding them now.

Enjoy the understeer.

I am not sure why you would even bother asking a bunch of miata experts this question.

Find flow rates of the B5, then look at compressor maps. Or google. I found a **** ton of stuff on there.

If you post some flow rates for the B5, we can maybe help you look through compressor maps, but that is easy anyway.

If you haven't already, read

PM Evan ( adriver1990 )

he has had many... his last built one was a Tial 605 car at 525 awhp

Tial 605 is a great setup for that car. Our other friend in NYC has about 700 hp (cant remember exact #'s or turbos) and its too much IMO.

In the years I owned a 2001 S4 (2004-2008) I never came across a single turbo setup. The packaging in that bay is motherfucking tizzite! Autospeed and VAST offer dual GT28 setups that should meet those power goals. I honestly can't even imagine how to pack a single turbo anywhere in there.

Another one to check out would be Wicked Motorsports. I think they've run a dual GT28 as well.

Oh, and if you need an upgraded oil cooler, let me know. I've got a Matrix Integrated that I never installed in the car. BNIB.

Interesting. Edge Motors is new to me, don't know how long they've been in business. Also new is the concept of a single turbo on there.

Taking some cheap shots from the forum seats, here's my thoughts: bad things will happen. There's an unbelievable mess of vacuum lines under that intake manifold. Very fragile vacuum lines (the spider hose) that aren't going to like the heat. Those lines barely hold up under stock use. Add to that fact you'll lose the coolant after-run pump (probably not significant), and cook some sensors back there (significant).

Funny, just went stage 3 with my A6. Frankenturbos for me.

034 Motorsports is releasing a single turbo kit for a very good price. It was around 3.3k for hardware, if I remember correctly. Required cutting out the rear firewall. I don't know if it's in production yet, but it will be very soon.

Here's a teaser thread:
034Motorsport B5 S4 Single Turbo Kit *Teaser*

I like the placement of the turbo but it will be interesting to see how all that heat effects the already shitty stock rubber/plastic lines. And czubaka is right, there is a mess of them. But we'll see how this turns out. The guy who runs the prototype kit has been running his for a while with no problems like that, at least not that they would reveal. Good luck on the single turbo build, I love to see some good 2.7t single turbo action!

034 Motorsport knows their stuff. To me that gives the single turbo much more credibility.

I lost to a S4 with an open downpipe and race gas and reflash. I was at around 350hp. he very steadily walked.

So I guess 450hp in audi really isn't enough hp. Since 350 wasnt eough for me.

Go Borg S366 why not I did

Whoa, missed out here. I've been busy and haven't checked this thread. I'll be doing the 034 Motorsports setup with most likely that borg. I was hoping to get some input on the options I listed but sounds like a lot of skeptics. This car is my daily and it is so much faster than any miata I've owned/seen/been in/thought about being in(straight line speed). You dont need 20 grand to pull 800-1000 hp out of one of these either. Could easily be done for 10k. Rods, pistons, 3L crank, 2.8 heads, turbo, mani, injectors, IC, fuel pumps, ECU, tune, done.

Pick up a VR6 and 034Motorsports bell housing adapter and build something much more friendly on the wallet and less weight with amazing power potential. Much nicer to work on as well.

What kind of upgrades have you made to the chassis and drive-train to handle this kind of power?

As I am sure you know, everything for these cars is quite expensive.

If you are going to pursue this, 034Motorsports is definitely top notch.

You should post pics of you car!!!

Yeah I don't believe that for a split second: they are heavy pigs and a 350whp miata would have no problem with even a 450whp s4 let alone one with open dps and tune. sounds like you got trolled.

-People are skeptical because you're talking big game but have yet to prove you're not simply FOS
-Obviously you haven't been in a quick, let alone FAST miata
-ONLY? 10K? On an audi? Now I KNOW you're full of sh*
Why not at least research actual build costs before you start slinging bs claims..I mean if you're going to lie, might as well be an educated lie and not some highschool boys wet dream of ONLY *partial list of insanely vague and expensive parts* and talking about it like you can do it in a weekend.

LOL

You can cry and call me a hater, or you can actually start the build RIGHT now, and within weeks/months prove me wrong. But I bet you won't, and this thread, like 1000 others just like it, will disappear into the internet like the wet dream that it is. I've seen this too many times, the chances of results are slim to none.

Sorry buddy but unless you have done it a few times before, you're not going to see 1000hp out of most cars with only 10K.

I dunno. This was on a few 30-140mph roll races. I really got raped at the time it took for the 3rd-4th-5th shifts and by 140 he had about two busses on me each time. Blah those races and a few others were what inspired me to bigger turbo. Lame
