They are soft as hell. Not a lexus obviously, but very VERY smooth/soft. Especially the newer ones.

About the gas mileage you are wrong. I have yet to see someone get consistently better than low 20's. That is the only reason why I didn't recommend the wrx. An impreza rs on the other hand, is still peppy enough to get out of its own way, yet gets much better gas mileage.

An 06+ impreza or impreza wagon can be had for way under 15k right now. Its got everything he's looking for.

I consider low 20's decent. Especially for an AWD turbocharged wagon. I had only driven one a few times and I had forgotten the ride comfort. If it is indeed soft, then it gets my vote even more strongly. Or any Subaru wagon for that matter. I want a Legacy so bad I almost can't stand it.

I simply want it for a comfortable awd 5-spd car. Volvo = baller status.

^Yup, V70r's are hard as hell to find used anyways... but a regular V70 T5 fwd is looking more and more likely for me. I'm a big fan of white, w/black leather int, really dark tint and a set of the "R" rims. Some sways, catback, intake...

The only thing about Volvo's is that they're second to Jag's for having the shittiest resale value in the industry. Good for me, bad for some schmuck who bought it new.

My recommendation would be a Subaru wagon- Forrester comes to mind. That or a windowless child molestation van.

I'm a fan, but nowhere to put a PowerEdge 4600 if need be.

What do you guys think about the Audi A3? That DSG transmission looks pretty nice. I would be limited to a used FWD 2.0T model for my price-range though.

a3 is great but like you said it would have to be REALLY used and higher mileage. Those things are not cheap

Oh and my friend with an a4 has so many problems it spends more time being worked on than driving.

I really want an awd turbo car for my next DD, no audi made the list, so it's been reduced to but a handful of cars.

DSM? Cheap, fast, easily moddable (16g + support = 330whp for $1500), can tow **** with a trailer, can pull on lots of things with a trailer. I hauled a full 2g AWD subframe (300lbs or so including diff etc) and some stuff in the hatch area, a b18 longblock and trans on the trailer, and still kept up with a friend on the highway in his stock evo IX. They're not extremely reliable but if you take care of it and do maintenance it should run well.

Clearly you didn't read the original post, so you need a kick to the nuts.

Shall I administer it to myself or do you get the honors?

I'll at least drop a little useful information then: Jetta/golf TDi, while not fun to drive is extremely comfortable and gets insane gas mileage. And it's not a prius.
