$20.77 to ship a 1.8lb package of 8x9x9 size from Birmingham to ATL. I've shipped things ten times heavier, 3 times larger, from here to Washington state and paid less. I probably could have literally driven the package there myself for less money. Delivery area surcharge fucked me, whatever that is. Or firstly, USPS fucked me as usual. For some reason my local office refuses to stock priority flat rate boxes of any size that is usable for anything other than books (wide and long, but only about 1" tall). Fucked from every direction, Ebay, Paypal, USPS, UPS. Then **** the Alabama DOT and whoever patches these roads around here. I swear the drive by with a shovel full of asphalt and just throw it in the hole and hit it with the shovel once and call it good. Awake for 27 hours, I'm cranky and tired, and this mornings festivities haven't helped. I had to restrain myself from jumping over the counter when the UPS guy told me the cost. Not his fault, but I couldn't help the rage.

Yes I'm bitching again, ******* deal with it.

If I remember correctly, that's how they adjust for how near the final address is to the closest UPS shipping depot. Particularly rural addresses can get very expensive, even if the total distance isn't very far.

It does make sense though -- the marginal cost of shipping an item from one UPS depot to another UPS depot is miniscule. It's the cost of getting it from the UPS depot to the destination address that's the big variable.

^ This.

Same deal with local phone companies. The last time I had a physical POTS line was when I had a house in Maineville, Ohio in 2003-04, which was in a rural area well outside of any sort of high-speed-internet territory, and I had to revert back to a 56k modem.

One of the items which showed up on my monthly phone bill was a "zone charge." After going through several CSRs, I finally got someone at the phone company to tell me that this was, for all intents and purposes, a "**** you for living so goddamned far from the nearest CO" fee.

TL;DR: You live in the sticks. Get over it.

I suppose that is true. I'm used to shipping to people near metro areas, and seeing GA, I wrongfully assumed it was near ATL. It's not, it's about 150 miles north of ATL, not really near any big cities. Dalton, being the closest of the "big" cities. **** that guy for being more in the sticks than me! My oh my, with a delivery area surcharge like that, he must play the banjo and make people squeal like pigs. That's how I'm going to start forming opinions of people. Their area surcharge.

At least this next package is going to Los Angeles. It's twice as large, and roughly twice the weight, and I bet it costs the same or less to ship.

There need to be a beer named "No Talent ***-Clown IPA" and then, just to screw with people, it should be a light lager.

Not much pisses me off more than to come out of a store to find a new ding in my door from some *******. The latest was deep/big enough that the other door was opened with more then a little force.

******....

I had a lady hit my door the other day with me sitting in the car. Probably mid 50's, stuck up looking bitch. You could tell she just slung the door open and took her hand off and let it swing free. She even saw me and made eye contact and showed no concern for my displeasure and made no attempt to apologize. Luckily for her I don't care as my exterior is already ding filled and faded pink. I did vocalize my displeasure, however and stared her down as she walked past and maybe made her a little uncomfortable. I was having a good day, otherwise I would have made a scene.

I had an old guy in an 80's caddy back into my NB in a parking lot while I was sitting in the car. He couldn't see where my bumper was so he literally just backed up until he hit me. ****** put 2 big gouges in the nose from the bolts in the factory NB front licence plate mount. I jumped out of the car and screamed at him and he literally waved at me as he drove away.

Yep. Reported it to the local PD and was told they would "get back to me." In this town that usually means "you got hit by an illegal with a stolen plate, have fun with your insurance company." So after I made 2-3 followup calls re: my case number I gave up.

Home made shepherd's pie makes my mouth and stomach happy. First one I've made in years, and it made me remember how ******* awesome peas, corn and mashed potatoes are together.

I usually don't park right up close to the store where all of the lazy mouthbreathers do. I try to park out away from other cars and enjoy a few more steps of free exercise.

My father knew a fellow who had a brand new car only a couple of days. A car pulled in to the spot to his right and the driver slung the door into his. He jumped out and said "Hey! You just hit my car!" The driver shrugged and kept walking. He was so furious he opened the passenger door, sat in the passenger seat, and pushed it open with both feet as hard as he could into the door of the car parked next to him.

I carry a harbor freight center punch in my console. I would never condone damaging another person's vehicle, but I do know that those little tools make a mess of molded headlights.
