oh, and it's a 2015. Primary reasons we got it in roughly this order

1. more space / rear doors
1. maximum MPG
2. 98 civic was a jalopy with dead A/C, rattles, and was so loud our toddler complained.
3. it was cheap for the MPG.
4. I have the MINI which is turbo awd
5. wife really wanted bright red.
etc.

Note that the Prius is NOT the cheapest small car to own in the long term. That's not why we got it. Our intention was partly to save total dollars, but ALSO to stop burning so much gasoline. This is also why we grow vegetables in our yard and walk to the farmers market (which is, admittedly, only about 800 feet from our back door if we hop the fence).

Moved from derp post - Losing my mind thinking about this stuff...

Doing research on mazdaspeed miata specific ecu pinouts, relays, injectors... (additional diagram links appreciated)

My vehicle is experiencing some sort of cut out. Unable to obtain fuel control with both stock ecu + xede, and a megasquirt stand alone. Any changes made simply do not register, even at idle.

With stock injectors/ecu, the vehicle runs lean at idle. RC440s, rich but manageable. Five-o 460 injectors are even more rich.

When driving the vehicle the car is able to rev to redline (slowly) under light load. When additional resources are needed the vehicle cuts out at 4-5psi under load and doesnt rev past 4k. Cam & crank sensors are lost and the motor falls flat on its face.

Cam & crank sensors have been replace. Alternator is new (old one died).

Not enough info for full thread, limited access to vehicle & information.

Obvious first thing to check with the MS is overboost protection. But if it's happening with the stock ECU + xede that's probably not it.

Props sir.

Seriously, I wasn't trying to be a dick. I mean, I am a dick, but was not actually trying to be a dick in this case. Also, no need to defend your decisions to us, we've already prejudged you

In the past I have publicly admitted that I would love to own a first gen Honda Insight

When do local farmer markets start in VA? Ours here don't start until end of June.

I mean booths at farms, not brick/mortar markets which get their produce from who knows where.

The first-gen Insight was a thing of beauty.

Elegantly simple, extremely lightweight (200 lbs less than an NA), and a clean, form-follows-function design.

I'd love to know what the "fair" (profitable) price of that car would have been.

I'd also love to strap a tiny little turbocharger and a modern LiFePO4 battery to one.

random memories: My brother bought one of those with some minor front end damage at an insurance auction for 2 grand like 1 or 2 years after they came out. How? They didn't know what the car was, at all, and listed it as an "alternative vehicle" or something like that, basically a category reserved for cars that can't be registered, projects/toys.

We've never even seen one before, go to repair it and realize it's all plastic/aluminum everywhere. Our minds are blown.

Drove it for a couple years, and then sold it for like 5x what he paid.

He kept looking for more like that, but by that time everyone realized what they are and prices shot up like crazy

I hoped to see hawks go duck hunting tonight, but the ducks haven't shown up.

In other news, Revolution Brewing 1Z Enuff is a superb beverage.

It was a good design choice. Kept initial cost down (no need to engineer a fancy new battery) and it's had the beneficial consequence that rebuilding the packs years later is relatively simple and inexpensive.

The Insight, remember, was never designed to run in electric-only mode. Mechanically, it's not even capable of doing so. (Unlike Prii, with their fancy-schamncy three-way transmissions, the Insight's electric motor is rigidly coupled to the engine. Its armature doubles as the flywheel.) The motor is there mostly just to provide some extra oomph off the line to compensate for the anemic 3-cyl 1 liter gas engine's low torque output.

So by giving the car *just* enough battery to accomplish that task without trying to be fancy, they kept weight and cost down and yet still got the job done.

I saw that. Its cool how it was just connected directly to the crankshaft.

The hybrid "system" on those sucks. IIRC, it's the same as the 03-05 civic hybrid, which I would argue had one of the worst systems ever made.
The prii is lightyears better.

But this brings me to my point: I wonder how super awesome an insight wtih a prius engine would be

While the hybrid scrutiny discussion door is open, I'm curious what the consensus is here on the Volt?
