How (and why) to Ramble on your goat sideways

That's interesting that the dentist only removed 1 wisdom tooth. Are any of them missing?
Usually when removing 3rd molars (actually, I'd say pretty much always), you need to remove upper and lower because without the opposing tooth, it will super-erupt. I'm assuming you're going back to get the other removed?
I'm also assuming he removed the lower one, because you had a nerve block that numbs that entire quadrant. Upper 3rd molars are usually easier and usually pop right out.

I'll be going back at some point to get the other 3 out, eventually.
He was doing the filling anyways, so I told him to just go for it. It had been bothering me since I was there for xrays and a cleaning last week, so I felt like why not just yank that bitch out.
I swallowed a **** load of blood last night and had a really hard time falling asleep. Today it feels fine, a little sore, but otherwise no pain.
So really, are you a dentist? I'd guess yes. lol

Anyway, don't let that happen to you!
I'm into 4 visits with my dentist this month. A failed crown replacement, and on the opposite side of my mouth I am in the process of having a root canal following an abscess. Good times.

Make sure that you don't loose the blood clot that formed in the socket. Sucking on a straw or a cigarette can cause it to come out. This is the dreaded dry socket. Cigarette smoking is what did it for me. The pain from this is epic, when I finally got to see a dentist about 36 hours after the pain started I was a basket case. You could the jaw bone at the bottom of the socket. The worst part is I have some massively high tolerance to most pain meds, Tylenol3 is terribly ineffective for me. Eventually they packed the socket full of something that was soaked in clove oil, that worked but to this day I smell cloves and I get sick to my stomach.

The dentist did mention to make sure I don't drink through a straw. Luckily the smoking cigarettes thing wont be an issue for me. I just checked the calendar and its been 75 days since I quit.
So.....does this mean I should avoid smoking anything else for the time being? I didnt light anything up last night in fear that the smoke may irritate the hole, but I didnt think about the sucking aspect of it. How long does it take for this hole to seal itself enough that I wont loosen up the blood clot?

Whose side are you on? It has everything to do with people being fed up with all the stupid **** that kid spewed all over our lovely boards. His argument for preferring a FI device on the cold side of his engine bay only served as a catalyst for his removal.
Now we have no reason to post Buffon's video.

I'm on my own side and I dont like democracies.
I banned him when I saw his coldside comment, purely because I thought it was a stupid thing to say and that did me in. Evil dictators ftw.

I'd give it a week before sucking on anything LOL.
Seriously though, I've heard dry socket is the worst pain EVAR. I think this came from a patient that was mother of a couple children and had given natural birth.
Anyway, I'd probably give it about a week. It's the lack of oxygen/vascularity (or lack of it) that primarily causes dry socket. Vacuum when sucking also causes it. So no sucking or blowing until then. =)
Oil of cloves mixed with eugenol is what they'll put in a dry socket and it smells exactly like clove cigarettes.
If it's still bleeding, I might put pressure w/ gauze. If that doesn't help, maybe put a tea bag on it. If your face is swollen, put ice on face - 5 min on, 5 min off. No NSAIDS for now. It may cause clotting issues (blood thinning). This includes ibuprofen, not just aspirin.
This is all just informational.

Its not bleeding anymore, at least from what I can tell its not. My face isn't swollen at all either. You cant even tell I had anything done, so I guess that's a good sign.
I'm on a z-pack that my gf brought home from the pharmacy. 2 pills last night, then 1 everyday for 4 days thereafter. Other than that the only thing I took was 2 pain killers to help fall asleep.
Thanks for all the great info and advice! Its greatly appreciated!
