No, it was tongue-in-cheek aimed at people that have nothing better to do than attack others in every instance to further their views or non-views.

Mr. Silverman seems not to be aware that the World Trade Center Foundation, Inc. is a private organization, and is thus not compelled by the first amendment.
On the other hand, I would love to see what sort of display American Atheists wants to put up. Would it be a 15 foot tall nothing, or a giant flying spaghetti monster made from twisted rebar?

The best solution is to take the cross down. A section of cross beams from a modern building is nothing more than that.
It's embarrassing to see people get teary eyed over this as if it is some sort of divine symbol. A reminder of how a divine and just god was completely absent, as he/she always is. A comforting symbol about the plague in the world that is religion.

Yes. It hurts and bothers me. It bothers me that politicians are still using god/religion to swing votes or in any way using god/religion to make choices. It's all bullshit and repeated fairy tales should not be allowed to have room in any important decisions.
It bothers me that god/religion can be used to persecute people for things that are completely up to the person's own self doing, whether is be choices about what they do on Sunday, how they spend their money or what they enjoy doing in their personal time. It hurts me that my friends are afraid to experience life because they have had the bible shoved down their throat for the past 20 years. It makes me sick to my stomach that my friend was left in a ditch for 9 days and fed scraps because her PARENTS felt it was necessary treatment for someone who wants to descend from Islam.
I can go on, but I am stopping here. That cross is nothing of importance and should be removed.
