It can be done, but I'd find somewhere else other than Atlanta. I stay out of that city as much as I can, other people from the area will typically say the same thing. Certain surrounding areas are nice, but it all also depends on what kind of job you're looking for and how far you're willing to travel, deal with traffic, etc.

I just made myself a rob roy but reversed the proper mix ratio (I use 3:1 because it's a good vermouth) so I had to correct it. only I was out of scotch so I used rye. and then I was out of rye. And I had clementine oranges instead of regular oranges so I garnished with that. now I'm out of scotch, rye, and almost out of my fancy vermouth. And I have a reasonbly serious buzz and my wife is telling me I'm hyper.

This night can only end in tragedy.

My lakehouse is rentable and would keep you in budget. It is a reasonable commute from there to downtown. Much better than trying to get in from the northside suburbs. I'll hook you up on the rate.

Just like a job in DC, nobody lives in the city, but instead commute in from the suburbs.

Don't do it. This place sucks. Sure you have a reasonable COL depending on how far you want to drive to work and there are a few tracks within a short drive (RA, AMP, BMP, CMP, RR, and TGP). But after having lived here since 1990 and dealing with "grown-up issues" is traffic, crime, entertainment etc.. for the past 13 years, I'm ready to GTO. The city itself is useless for the most part. Mid-town and Buckhead are full of drunk yuppies and wannabe rapper thugs on the weekends. The public transportation is a joke at best. The average commute for someone living in the metro-area is ~35 miles. The crime here sucks....just go to DeKalb County Mugshots or Gwinnett County Mugshots to see who you'll be dealing with..or just go to one of our local news websites and skim over it for a couple of days. People here suck at driving and are rude in general (yes, I can make a fair comparison after having driven in other major cities). The metro-area is like someone took a big MSPaint stamp of all the typical chains and box-stores and just went stamp crazy. The spring pollen will probably kill you as it tries to inseminate your nose and lungs. GDOT sucks at planning...anything.

On the bright side, if you're looking for a reason to discharge a firearm...you'll likely get a good chance if you hang out in the city for awhile lol.

To me, it's too big, too spread out and too busy. They few "good" places are always packed as **** because sooo many people are bored. There are no big attractions close by...no beach, no mountains (well, the N. Ga mtns...if you want to call them "mountains", though there are some good roads up there in addition to The Dragon).

Meh, like many big cities, people that work within the beltway commute from outside of it and live their lives outside of it except for sporting events and such. Suburbs are nice and full of nice people. Mike is inside the beltway and that's a different environment. Suwannee area is nice, with some good paying jobs up there. I have family up there.

Apparently, it's getting difficult to purchase just a plain ole' 5.1 home-theater receiver. Not a "sound bar", not an integrated BluRay home theater thingy, just a box that sits on the shelf and has at least one coaxial (or optical) audio input, and some speaker outputs.

At first, I was like "Nah, I'm not gonna waste my time troubleshooting and repairing this thirteen year old receiver I have here, I'll just buy a new one."

No. I already bought one of those 13 years ago. I shouldn't have to buy one a second time.

Here's what's bugging me: For $100 - $125, I can buy any number of "home theater in a box" kits which contain a combination Bluray player / network set-top box / receiver-amplifier, along with a set of six speakers. Even though I have no need for the speakers or the Bluray player, one of those would be perfect. Trouble is, I can't find any that have a S/PDIF input. Even the ones made by Sony, which is ironic as hell, given that the "S" in S/PDIF stands for Sony.

Is it such a foreign concept that the owner of such a system might want to use it not only to play BluRay discs, but also as a general-purpose amplifier? Granted, not everybody is a fearsome pirate like myself, but I understand that a lot of people own modern videogame consoles. Guess what they use for audio output?

What really kills me is that a lot of these systems, even the very cheapest, actually support S-video. Really? When was the last time you actually saw somebody use an S-video connection? They felt that this feature was more important to include than S/PDIF support?
