Nothing. I was just intrigued by this "Deep Web".

I got the Tor Browser and played around on the hidden wiki for a few hours......and on anonchan.

My impression was that it seemed to provide bandwidth similar to that of a 14.4 dial-up connection, with latency comparable to a multi-hop satellite connection.

Fun fact: TOR is principally funded by the US Government.

Fun fact #2: TOR is fairly insecure. There have been a number of successful attacks against it which have exposed the IP addresses of targeted users. In fact, by using TOR, you are probably making yourself a bigger target simply by participating in a network which, by its very nature, attracts suspicion and hackers.

Fun fact #3: You are also opening yourself up to criminal liability by acting as a TOR node, such as the case of William Weber who was busted last November and has been charged with distributing child pornography. Weber himself was not engaged in the act, however someone else was anonymously torrenting child **** through the TOR system, and some of it wound up exiting the network through one of Weber's computers.

Fun fact #4: Cleanfeed. (This scares me more than SOPA.)
I read the majority of that today. I felt nervous the entire time I was using the network and felt like a criminal looking around the hidden wiki and silk road.

I honestly can't bring myself to look at anything else.

I have come to loathe people posting to forums using their phones. I am not talking about the occassional misspelling or typo (or the incorrect use of "weary" when they mean "leery" or "wary").

I am talking about the complete lack of paragraphs, capitalization and punctuation. I've posted before or sent a text before when I was not legally capable of driving and they never looked as bad as what some people today consider acceptable.

When you're at work, chatting with the helpdesk on a password problem, and the dude on the phone says "shut-up" then hangs the phone up, do you chase him down and tattle to his boss, or let it go?

I've been there. Please be nice to the helpdesk people. You may be competent, but I guarantee they have to deal with 100 other people the same day that called them up because they couldn't fine the 'any' key.

But if he's just an ******* then go for it.

Jayne is just simple minded, hence the "Can I come in?" But he does have some loyal feelings to some of the crew, and at least a little respect for them. He was truly embarrassed by the big deal the Mudders made over him because he knew he'd not done anything righteous to deserve the praise. Then he realized how fun it was to be thought of as the hero (something new to him), so he lived it up for a while and took advantage of it. He is conflicted and complex, in a simple sort of way.

Jayne has some great lines. The one about, "if wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak" and the one where he's bitching about no payoff (something like, "nothing into nothing, carry the nothing...").

Sure, but it's not a complete diagnosis. Other traits characteristic of psychopathy are egocentricity, superficial charm, manipulativeness, and impulsivity. That describes every field salesperson I know, and yet I don't think they're psychopaths, just dicks.

I don't think I could have put it better myself.

Shiny! Let's be bad guys.

Gee, it sure would've been nice to have some grenades don'tcha think?! (To Mal, while being pursed by Reavers, after having been told by Mal to leave the grenades behind when packing for a "simple" robbery earlier in the day.)

Hell, I'll kill a man in a fair fight... or if I think he's gonna start a fair fight. Or if he bothers me. Or if there's a woman. Or if I'm gettin' paid--mostly only when I'm gettin' paid.

Mal, she is starting to damage my calm!

So I've been trying to track down a fellow I know in high school, who now lives in NorCal. Googled his name along with the name of the company I knew he was working for. One of the pages I came up with was a list of patents with his name on them.

#20090231271: Haptically Enabled User Interface
#20090189746: Actuating A Tactile Sensation In Response To A Sensed Event
#20080294984: Customizing Haptic Effects On An End User Device

I read this and thought you were going to end up with one of those cartoons about ridiculous intellectual property patents and then...

Well, that did not turn out how I expected.

Speaking of Firefly, has anyone seen Castle? They even had an episode with Adam Baldwin (who played Jayne) as a reckless cop. Was highly entertaining to see the two of them work together again. They also make occasional references to Firefly in the series.

I figure that guys who spent their time designing their own brand of personal lubricants are probably pretty slimy.

At our annual big tradeshow of various virtual training systems, our neighbor and partner booth was showing off a haptic feedback device. the device was shaped roughly like a joystick and set about waist high. it was facing the exterior of the booth.

often after demonstrating said device, the sales staff and customers of the company in question would circle up for discussions and such with, invariably, one individual from the circle closest to, yet facing away from, the haptic device. which was at roughly waist level.

so i offered up the obvious term of hapdick device.

So it took 3 hours for them to get here with the car.

The only real issue with the car is that the radiator support is off. That is why the hood does not shut properly and the driver side headlight does not go down. Luckily I have a sawzall and a welder, so fixing radiator support is no problem.
