So I failed inspection Friday on my prelude for 2 parking lights out and a torn steering boot.

I just got under the car and no boots are torn, not the axles or the steering rack boots. I'm pretty pissed; going to a new shop to retest after i change the bulbs today.

Nevermind, I pulled the tire and saw it's all ripped on the top of the boot so I couldn't see it from crawling under and looking from below.

At least it's the steering rack boot and not the axle, I'll just pop it off the knuckle and it should be easy breezy beautiful.

Also, another bonus, I also had failed for having clear side marker lights; they've been installed since 2006 or so and I've never failed for them. I actually put the original lenses in a box and saved them this entire time just in case they ever failed. I was able to dig them out of a box sunday after a long search. I was going to resort to buying amber tint and just covering them to pass, as that was cheaper than the used lenses I was finding online.

I don't mind annual safety inspections; This is the only time most people will ever change their brake pads, lights, tires, etc. It's the bi-annual emissions I dont like.

I think failing for a torn steering boot is silly, and techincally the clear side markers aren't legal.

Hell, I've failed for bad windshield wiper blade once. I think the best was failing for a "cracked" belt then offering to fix it for an ungodly amount of money, declining the offering, parking the car with a failed sticker it in the lot so the tech could see me, going next door and buying a new belt, walking back to my apt across the street to grab some tools and spending about 3 minutes swapping out the belt. He had my pass sticker waiting for me and didnt even charge me the $1 retest fee.

Two weeks ago it took me ~75 minutes to pedal 7.5 miles. I just peddled 15 miles in ~70 minutes. Cool.

So I got a free DeWalt sawzall from my boss. Only catch is its seized up. When you pull the trigger it makes a humming noise and blows the outlet fuse. Anyone thinks its worth fixing? BTW I cant find anything that looks wrong from the outside.
