Im planning on test driving a 2L Mazda 3.
What sounds attractive about the fit is that the shifter feels lovely, it has quick non-electric steering, and it quite roomy inside.
What sucks is the tiny amount of horsepower it makes. Especially coming from over 400 in my daily.
I really just want something more reliable, room for transporting stuff, cheaper on gas, cheaper on insurance, and with a shifter that isnt constantly unpleasant. It probably sounds ridiculous but the rubbery shifter in the mustang really bums me out. Every gear change is a disappointment.

Car and Driver has been raving about these cars for the better part of a decade. It has really stuck in my head.
They always seem to say the same thing. Basically that its incredibly fun to drive regardless of being a silly little hatchback with no power.

Replace the word "hatchback" with "convertible" in the above sentence and that basically sums up the first 10 years of reviews about the Miata.

Don't get me wrong, if the car works for you and you like it that's fabulous. I'm not hatin' on your decision. I've just hated the "new mini" since day 1. It's like they bought the brand for name recognition and used some of the styling cues to make it feel legit. Damn Germans.

The car on the left isn't the smallest new MINI. Apples to potatoes comparison, even if you do call it a "pomme de terre."

Oh I don't take any personal offense. I did exactly what you said. I bought the smallest four door people carrier I could find. It's 6" longer than a miata.

I was just suggesting that there was a Mini Countryman before the current iteration.

The story I heard is that BMW wanted to build a FWD compact car, but putting a BMW badge on a FWD car was sacrilege. Which would seem to suggest they bought the mini name for exactly the reasons you describe.

My brother has been driving around in a turbo Sonic rental the last week due to a minor fender bender in his subaru.

That thing made me 'LOL', quite fun.

So, on last night's 10pm news here at WPIX, one of our reporters was coming out of a live shot in Harlem, and at the very end of his shot, just before we switched back to the studio, some kid runs into frame just behind him and shouts "fucked her right in the *****!"

We're all re-watching the clip this morning and laughing our asses off. That kid's timing was perfect.

Haha. Hadn't seen that one.

Our kid didn't grab the mic, he just ran up behind the reporter and shouted.

Anyway, Oregon has now designated saccharomyces cerevisia as its Official State Microbe, so we can all rest easy about that.

My sister had a fit for about 6 years. Still maintained decent resell value, never broke down. REALLY cheap to maintain (small tires, lots of parts, honda designed these cars so that maintenance is easy and AFFORDABLE.) Whenever one of those come in the garage I just love working on them, these japanese engineers at honda really know their ****.
Reliable and cheap little cars those. And it was nice being is something that isn't as tight as an airplane's bathroom for once.
Love. Me. The. Roomies.

As for the Mazda2, I just love that car - to pick between the fit and the mazda 2 is pretty hard but simply for the proven reliability of honda engines and resell I'd go for the honda.
Had a 2L mazda 3 too, those cars man. I don't know what it is about mazdas and oil leaks. At least 2 mazdas per week come in the garage complaining about engine noises and it turns out there wasn't any oil left in the car. Happened to me too, blew that engine right off.

As for the mustang shifter, isn't it like one of the few cars that still use a cable clutch system?

I've got to post this here.

It's not every day you see some good content on CR. I'm not sure if this topic has made it's way over here yet or not. If so i apologize.

Just thought the folks around here would find this interesting is all.

I thought this was a few good words to quote.

I've been keeping up on that thread. I knew Stoly from back in Texas and I think he is a great guy. No clue what happened between brain and him and honestly don't care not my beef.

Definitely a crazy thread though, and the most recent stuff about the tune nearly made me sick to my stomach. I don't even know what I would do if I got a car "tuned" and it looked like that.

I don't even understand how people can setup an MSPNP that bad. I kind of feel bad for the guy.

I'd like to see a separate thread discussing the maps shown. That is the worst **** i've ever seen.

He had no desire to learn or **** around with Megasquirt himself, so he bought a PNP Megasquirt. Nothing wrong with that.

It wasn't PNP.

There's the issue. Issue being that "PNP" apparently doesn't have a standard definition.

Not really relevant in the end, as a PNP was purchased from TDR, TDR installed it and set it up (horrifically), and "tuned it," destroying the motor in one of the most impressive displays of incompetence and awful customer service in recent history.
