How (and why) to Ramble on your goat sideways
Falling onto the sidewalk from the top of a tall building is gonna scar some people too, but at least they wont believe they were at fault.

I tell myself that if/when things get that bad for me, I'll walk off into the woods far away somewhere with a bottle of vodka and enough tranquilizers to knock me out and let hypothermia do the rest without me feeling anything. I'll leave a note behind for when someone figures out I'm missing, explaining that I'm gone and not to bother looking for my body...followed by a list of requests, one of them being to play a specific song at my memorial service.
Have I thought about this too far? Probably. Does it scare me? Bet your ***.

A discussion on suicide that I read gave some perspective on the train method. On top of the already selfish act of suicide, the selfish ******* is graciously giving the train operators some serious PTSD and guilt. They'll have to go through staring them down, blaring the horn, hammering the brakes in futility, and examining the charming scene once the train has finally stopped. They will likely feel at fault in some way and have been unwillingly involved in the ordeal. Family or not, that's shitty.

New suggestion -- I would kidnap Liam Neeson's daughter.
If your concern is traumatizing those who love you then you shouldn't be committing suicide in the first place. I can only think of a few situations in which suicide is an acceptable solution and they all involve terminal illness and a conversation with your family before the deed is done.
To anyone who has a little to much insight on this subject, please don't hesitate to give the hotline a call. There are people who want to listen and help you.
This is a good ad.

Since we're talking about suicide-by-train, a word of advice: don't stop on the tracks.
Last night, Ellen Schaeffer Brody, a woman, decided to ignore posted signs and common sense, and brought her SUV to a stop on the Metro North tracks at a level crossing just north of here in Scarsdale.
After the train hit her vehicle and annihilated her, the third rail (750VDC on that line) was torn from its mounts and penetrated the first car of the train, causing a massive arc-flash and fire which subsequently killed five people on the train, charring them so thoroughly into crispy critters that the remains are being identified by dental records.
So don't do that. It ***** up everyone's commute.
(Also, killing a bunch of semi-innocent people to death in a fiery inferno is sort of bad.)

The thing you have to ask yourself when choosing the method is, "Can I live with myself if I attempt suicide, and fail?" If I'm taking the supremely selfish option of offing myself to end my own personal misery, there needs to be no chance of failure.
I can foresee checking myself out in the case of terminal disease or dementia onset. Racking up six to seven figures of bills while people wipe the drool off my chin and I can't remember my kid's names is not how I want to go and not how I want to be remembered.
Years ago, I was in the emergency room of a hospital in New Haven. The guy standing next to me asked for a cigarette, and when I gave it to him, I saw that he was wearing these weird medical handcuffs - sort of like plastic gauntlets lined with gauze and bound with zip ties. Then I noticed the cop guarding him. Seems he was on the way to jail after his 3rd unsuccessful suicide attempt(slit wrists).
Cop said that if he was serious, he would have succeeded the first time.

Well, apparently the house in question will not be the residence of wife and daughter no matter what they think. Suicide was because of debts run up by the deceased. He had a gambling problem, and had cleaned out the 401k, second mortgage and all the savings. Everything of value is in hock. Bank had delivered notice of eviction the morning of the actual suicide. Wife had no clue.
So, he took the coward's way out. Everything that the family was looking forward to was a lie, because it was all spent. I feel sorry for the survivors, and mostly just disgust towards the father.

Today marks the sixth anniversary of my best friend killing himself. Take care of yourselves and each other and remember that not everyone exhibits the "normal" signs before deciding to commit suicide. I don't think I've ever seen such pain as the look in his parents' eyes. Mental illness f*cking sucks.
