You are still playing it? I should maybe try again sometime, although I didn't play enough to be good.

Stem id "hi_im_sean". I just play the no heroes 24/7 payload servers. I like payload maps. I'll be getting on here in a few minutes.

I haven't played in months.

I've popped on once or twice, here and there, but since the loss of my old server, the fun has gone out from it.

Is Heroes a big thing? I thought PF2 was just about the only server that featured it. I actually kind of liked that game mode, though I realize it has its detractors (and I detest regular VSH.)

And, yeah. Payload is best load. It's the only game mode that provides the challenge of a moving objective and a dynamic battlefield. Camping is pretty much impossible, and that's a good thing.

no heros

edit- they seem to be the only ones with 32 player, 24/7 pl map servers. TF2 has really gone to **** since the golden years.

Not really sure I'd fit in.

But in all seriousness, when you said "heroes" I thought you were referring to the specific gamemode which is sort of a hybrid of VSH and regular gameplay, where there are two balanced teams pursuing a normal objective (PL, PLR, CTF, KOTH, 5CP, etc), with normal respawn, and each team has one Saxton who, when killed, passes to another player.

That was the game mode that the PF2 server specialized in. And I quite liked it.

I will have to look into this. Finding a "serious", adults-only server is not easy,

A stroll this past weekend thru a local park adjacent to an interstate scenic overlook made me wonder, where do the closet dikes go to scissor?

I'm glad I had my wife with me.

I should open up steam again and jump on some TF2. I am down for some more.

Joe what specifically did you like on the server you played on? I used to host my own servers 5-6 years ago. I may be tempted to start one back up again.

Sorry, my lack of punctuation and capitol letters lead you astray. Honestly I didn't even know what you were referring to, and also had to look up PF2 knowing typos arnt your thing. ******' Bronies, lol.

If you find any decent servers let me know. I was running my own for a while, but it heated the house up unbearably. I was going to throw it in the garage, but it just consumed to much power, and my server was dead most of the time. So I sold the hardware earlier this year.

I miss 64 player servers. It was madness. Those were the days.

Im almost always playing either WOT or a half life derivative after about 8pm moutain time every night. DODS anyone?

Edit- Feel free to move all this crap into the gaming subforum. Shall we revive the TF2 thread?

We got any aquarium / fish tank people in here?

I need to keep a 10 gallon tank at 60F for extended time to do some testing(that I can't go into detail on). I was thinking fish tank heater / chiller. Anyone have any experience on this?

Originally I was thinking submersion heater with a SS cooling loop(1/2" pipe looped) fed by a garden hose and just dumping to drain or reuse in a rinse tank. But something a little more simple would be nice.

I need to maintain 60F.

It also needs to be somewhat resistant to very mild chemicals. Plastic, PVC, Stainless, ECT.

Well, three things in particular.

1: There was a relatively high level of maturity and skill. Teams tended to be well-balanced, as there just weren't a lot of weak players around. And the server was well-moderated. Mic-spammers and children were dealt with swiftly. Friendlies were also not permitted, which is a big problem on some private / specialty servers.

2: It was almost always busy during prime-time. Often, there was a waitlist even when it was running 32 players. You almost never logged on and found just one or two people derping around.

3: Although the server was public, it was mostly populated by a core group of regulars. You got to know people, know their play style, their strengths and weaknesses, etc. There were two guys in particular who, if they were a spy on the opposing team, I knew it was pointless to play heavy, and would play engie only if I had another player on my team who I trusted to be my pyro-in-residence, or if I was defending certain intels where I knew I had a camping spot that was difficult to penetrate. And, by the same token, I can remember a lot of times when I'd join the server, and immediately one or two people on the other team would say "****" and change class to something I couldn't dominate as easily.

NoHeroes sounds interesting, especially if they have a PL server. I used to have something of a reputation as being an unstoppable force when pushing the cart, as I tended to focus on actually pushing the cart rather than getting distracted by side-battles and trying to run up my killcount.

That said, my strange Huo-Long Heater has reached the rank of Hale's Own.

True dat.

We tended to always have alltalk on as well, so you could actually have meaningful conversations with people while killing them.

I had probably 2 dozen servers that met this description saved to my favorites, that were 24/7 payload only. The "EGO" clan servers stick in my mind. It was always the same 30-40 players in there, we all knew each other..... hell I still have some of those people on my friends list even though they havnt logged in in 3 years. My friend nick would come over 4-5 nights a week, he would always be medic, and I would be a demo or soldier, and we ruled that fuking cart, it was our bitch. You can work together so well when you are sitting right next to each other, we got banned from a few servers together, they thought we were cheating. On red team we would be engi pairs that worked together. A pair or 3 of engineers who work together is almost impenetrable by the offense.

This is why I say TF2 has gone to ****. It was easy to find servers like what you describe before they released the game for free. From beta to the day it became free, TF2 was awesome.

When hats and mic spamming from individuals whos ***** have yet to drop became the norm, and all people wanted to do was trade crates, I left for battlefield, and then world of tanks.

If this will be kept indoors, I don't know of anybody who sells an aquarium chiller, since most tropical fish require <70F. I'm not sure if the thermostat on any of the heaters goes down to 60, but I've never checked. In an unheated space, you might be OK. You would also need some water circulation to ensure even temp distribution.

Generally, the heater tubes are made of glass, so not too susceptible to corrosion.

We had that kind of coordination on the PF2 server as well, even though it was by voice chat rather than physical co-location.

I find this interesting.

I didn't start playing TF2 until after it went F2P. And in the early days, I heard a lot of people decrying the death of the game as a result. So I guess I never experienced TF2 in its Golden Age, and have little to compare to. Maybe it was easier to find good servers back then, I have no idea. I do know that >99% of the servers I join randomly annoy me. Zero coordination, zero teamwork, low skill... I find that I've become what some people call a "pub stomper" and a "tryhard", in that when I join a server I actually want to play the objective, and usually rocket to the top of the scoreboard so quickly that it bores me.

Frankly, the term "tryhard" puzzles me. If you're not going to try hard, why bother showing up in the first place?

But i'm literally running test parts in an experimental bath that is less than 10 gallons. I don't want to put to much thought into this. If the test bath works i'll need to spend my time and energy focusing on how i'm going to do it in a 1500 gallon tank.

I'm just going to build a stainless cooling loop with a valve and hook the garden hose to it. Winter time water is like 45F here. It's a test that will be done for 30 minutes at a time for a week straight. I'll brief the techs that they will need to constantly monitor the temperature and just crack the cooling loop valve should it get too warm.

I know i'm putting way to much faith these workers. Will report back with failure results.
