How (and why) to Ramble on your goat sideways
Totally miscl. and a ramble- For those who haven't experienced a ride on the track. At FM's Summer camp a few years ago I got to ride in the Targa Miata with Keith. At the time it had the weak v8 (Har har) and skinny 8" wheels. I had never been on a track before up to this point and what follows is my memory and impression of the ride, in particular the first 150 feet and 1 sec. or so.
We did not get underway, start, or take off. We sort of exploded into noise and motion. My brain said "get the **** out and you're going to barf" all before I could raise my head back up with this helmet on that had gotten incredibly heavy. I learned to look out and way ahead at about the 3rd turn and 10 sec. into the ride to keep from yacking. I never heard the exhaust that I remember except for the cammed up idle- just a loud din. After that it was a total blast and I mean BLAST. Keith gave rides all day both days. What a work out. I rode in Igor the FMII powered car that was nearly as fast. It seems really violent at first until you get used to it then the most fun you ever had.

I am so sore. I spent the day helping bottle batch #8 of Iron Smoke whiskey. It was fun, but a helluva lot more work than I anticipated. Started at 10:30 AM, and finished up right around 5:30 PM. All the heavy lifting (emptying the kegs) had been done by that point. We filled bottles, applied labels, added neck stickers, hand labeled and then packed the bottles. 3005 bottles total, or just a hair over 500 cases.
I got to take a "reject" (mislabeled bottle) home for my trouble.

Finally had a nice mild day and spent most of it outside. Worked on my FIL's protege. It had a p0300 random misfire code. Used my hf scanner to find it had high fuel trims at idle that would quickly drop with some throttle. I knew it had a vacuum leak but couldnt find anything.
Got out my diy smoke machine and added an unused regulator to it so i could dial in the flow. Used a jar of heinz gravy to seal the maf side of the intake tube. Found the leak fairly quick and thankfully wasnt the egr.

Not really. After all, I volunteered; they didn't have to give me anything. We only had about a dozen bottles rejected, so there wasn't all that much to take and I didn't want to be greedy. They are very good neighbors, so it all works out in the end.
One bottle will last me quite a while. I don't usually drink whiskey.

Checked in with my old boss. Confirmed that I passed both the 3G and 4G welding certifications for stick welding (vertical and overhead groove welds). He said he's going to be mailing me my cards.
I was pretty sure I'd pass, but wasn't totally confident.

Researching knock today...
With my special snowflake ecu + xede setup & rad racer reroute I'm having difficulty passing ODB2.
Reset codes the other night, knock codes came up within a day or 2. Coolant is related to the slow warm up. For the coolant I was thinking about placing a valve inline on the reroute hose that comes off of my heater core.
Any tips on knock prevention?
I noticed with moderate throttle no boost, shifts 2-3 & 3-4.... 2-3k rpm my AFR spikes up to 16,17,18 Bogs acceleration until more fuel gets added and it settles back down to 14.7~15.3
I was thinking about placing -3 timing across the entire timing map, since I have no idea what the reflash is set too other than 17* at idle.

Pretty sure it's in closed loop. I don't believe the xede is fighting it. Fuel trims are actually good. Most of the tune itself is coming from the reflash.
TPS map is all 0s, which enables open loop for boost on the msm
Timing map is all 0s except for the top which is -6 (I have yet to push the vehicle to this area, most of my driving is off boost or up to 0-1 psi)
Fuel was slightly road tuned for higher rpm, cruise & light boost (5psi or less) but no modifications to the lower portion. I think it's getting up to a load percentage in the 2-3k range and since it's still 0s in this area it's not commanding the extra fuel.

You should put a valve on the reroute, something like a thermostat. Tuning a car that won't hold temp sucks, the only way to get it constant temp is a thermostat.
Dutch the begi junk alreadddddy.

I first need to get other finances in order, find a new DD, new place with a garage etc. This car has drained my soul along with my wallet
Thermostat sounds good, I was just thinking about putting a brass valve. Keep it slightly open but closed enough to limit flow. Allow coolant to go out the stat in the front instead once it fully warms up.
You still have a front thermostat housing, it still has a little drain/suction line hooked up to the inlet on the water pump?
It'd probably be fine then, you just need some flow through the block when the thermostat is closed.

I have a different inlet to the water pump and only takes coolant from the radiator and a top line that comes out for coolant to the trubo
Until I have more monies, This is what I have.
... Anyone know if there is a crank timing vs up to idle timing?
Curious if my knock is from me cranking the car, like if the reflashed ecu is demanding 10* vs 17*
I would think its 17* cranking up to whatever rpm range 0-1500rpm for example. If this is true, not sure how much me changing the timing map's lower range will affect anything.

So amazon has the HyperX Cloud 2 on sale for 70 bucks just for today.
If anyone is looking for some sick headphones have at it. Comes with a game too.
