Yes, taxes over here are subject to taxation.

Genius.

Um, on a brighter note, burial services and funerals are absolutely free of charge.
You do not pay anything at all when you die. Nothing.

No taxes, either.

Do you have to pay tax on the tax on the tax?

It happens all the time in the US, most commonly when you have a particular item that is subject to an excise tax or import duty and is then sold in a state with sales tax.

There's a Federal 18.4 cent/gallon excise duty on gas, that is included in the price of the sale on which any state-level sales tax is computed. There's also usually state excise tax on gasoline as well. Same thing with alcohol, tobacco, etc.

Another one is the Federal gas guzzler tax imposed on vehicles that fail to meet a certain milage, that amount is also included in the sales tax amount.

It's because people are too dumb to realize that when you tax the item 4 times it adds up.

If I sell a machine that's $200,000 we collect sales tax. If the customer trades it in in a couple of years and then we sell it again for $100,000 we charge sales tax again. On the same item. Taxed twice. Ain't that something?

Good thing we don't pay taxes on used cars.

The thing is, used car prices are really inflated because of how high new car prices are.
There's no way you could find an NB for anything under $20K over here, hell, more even.

So what are the laws on importing cars? I could fit 2 or 3 NB's in a container then ship them over for you to sell. I will pick them up for $4k US all day long, then you sell them for $20k, and we split the money.

I'd wish, but here it's two years old or 30.
**** automatic nb's sell for 15k usd, which is blue book price for miatas. We have the same official pricing for manual AND automatic cars, though manuals usually sell for 5k above.
Insurance doesn't care though, so in case of an accident you are screwed.
NA with msm drivetrain recently sold for 20k, no turbo cars entered the market yet apart from this one. But won't be a trouble to sell at all.

it is hitting the fan in slow motion as we speak:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...ty-leaders-mps

Party leaders, elected officials, members of parliament detained at midnight raids, arrests ensue.

Internet shutdown in places, VPN services disabled nationwide.

This is serious.

Like I have told you previously, let me know if you need a vpn server to hit. I can get one up and running for you. Can throw on a random port to throw them off and hopefully let you get outside access.

Question. With all the crazy civil war **** and whatnot going on do you still like living in Turkey? Would you rather live somewhere else? Is it hard to leave (you seem well off and skilled, i'm sure its always harder to leave for other people).

From the outside it seems like not a great place to be, so just wondering what your motivation for staying is.

That is the burning question...

You can say I like living here. I mean, my whole family and friends are here, and I really would not want to just leave my family behind and leave.
Also, I am not well off, we do OK here.
I simply enjoy the benefits of being well educated and bilingual in a place where people keep getting dumber with each generation.

I earn an average Joe' one month's salary in 2, maybe 3 days. Same holds true for my wife.
While that's nowhere near Joe Perez level of income, we are able to maintain decent standards.

Now, I have no problems getting on a plane and flying to a destination of my choice in the US. I have a US passport.
The question is, what would I do for a job once I get there?
I will be 55 in less than 2 months. Not easily marketable for meaningful employment.
Plus, our (as in, my wife and I) skill set is not worth much in the US. Hell, everyone speaks English there.

Also, the more qualified, educated, smart people leave, get blacklisted, arrested or fired from government/public/private jobs, the more they need our services to fill the void here.

I need to stay where my family is, and this happens to be the only place where I can make a living without having to start at the very bottom.

Am I proud of being in the middle of all this?
Hell no.

Dude. I will get you a job at my lab. Totally serious about this. If it gets bad enough that you need some options, let us know.
