Anyone ever re-foam a speaker? I have a pair of Cerwin Vega D-9's (big, heavy and loud) and the surrounds are shot. Some places want to sell you the shims, and tell you to cut out the center dust cap and shim the voice coil. Other places tell you that is a bunch of crap, and just costs more. These speakers are 20 years old, and get far louder than I listen to anything these days. So, is shimming necessary?

PartsExpress has a lot of model-specific kits, including several for Cerwin-Vega, but not in the 15" class.

They do have a "universal" 15" re-foaming kit: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=260-935

There's also an instruction video at the bottom of the page.

I'm going with the Simplyspeakers kit which is specific to CV, and doesn't have the shims. I watched a bunch of vids on both methods, and I think this will work well enough. Not like I'm going to be cranking any Black Sabbath or Deep Purple at ear splitting levels like in my youth.

Only at this job for a month and already seeing I may become addicted to buying tools. It's nice to have newer, nicer tools, and they allow you to do your work better and faster, in return making you more money... to buy more tools! Just got paid Friday morning and already I have spend all of my "play" money. New impact and swivel sockets.

Not sure if repost? Mazda commemorated it's 20th anniversary of winning Le Mans by restoring it's greatest race car, the 787B-002.

Then let Johhny Herbert & Patrick Dempsey risk destroying the priceless machine at 200+ mph down the Mulsanne Straight.

As much as I have hated on rotarys, there's just something about the sound of them that makes me happy.

And yet again, another big **** YOU to FedEx. Everyone always bitches about UPS, but I ALWAYS have issues with FedEx, never UPS. Had a package I was needing today, delivery date was today... waited and waited, 9pm, never showed. Not the first time. I guess I will get it whenever they feel like bringing it, maybe tomorrow.
