As long as it's a 10v, right? Will it charge on a 5v?

I'm not sure if I want a Nexus 7 or wait for the Nexus 10. I kind of want to see what Shadow Tuner looks like. Is that a ship that will never come in?

Let me tell you about how much of a ****-up I am.

Our leadership decided at the national level that we would no longer work in offices or cubicles, we now do the "collaborative workspace". Our luxurious cube walls were taken down and there is new furniture coming.

I'm three days in now and things are bad. I cannot ******* concentrate, at all. There is something going-on everywhere I look, people are constantly talking to each other or on the phone...there is no escaping distrations. I'm sending emails to the wrong people, making huge mistakes in my work, god damn this sucks. I need to figure something out fast because this is total ****.

It's official.

I have decided to get back into rc planes after an almost 14 year hiatus.

I have always regretted getting out of it in the first place. So, I have started collecting the necessary hardware, and will start building soon. I will start with a 1/5 scale J3 Piper Cub.

Huh?

USB is 5v. Period. That's all this plug does- it takes in 12-15v from the car and regulates it down to 5v for the USB devices.

At my current job I have moved from sitting at a conference table in a semi isolated lab, to a half-height cube farm, and going to an open roll around table "Agile" development layout in a few weeks. I by far have the best concentration when I am in the lab at my conference table with only 4-6 other people around. I honestly try to sneak back in there as often as I can.

Nexus 7 requries at least 5v-2a to charge, my old USB car adapter charger thingy was a 2v and took forever to charge my phone.

I actually meant this:

2v? Did you mean 2A?

I just looked up the specs, and it does indeed include a 2A charger. (This means that the charger can deliver a maximum of 2 amps- actual current delivery is determined by the load.) And there's a note that charging from sources other than the provided charger may result in slow charging.

That said:

1: Any car USB adapter rated for at least 2A should work.

2: Something was wrong with your old car adapter.

Most car usb adapters can do 100-500mA. A few can do 1A. Almost zero can do 2A.

I believe the tablet has increased the power requirement for charging beyond the limits of the computer charging power limits.

I think in theory that chargers are allowed a maximum safety limit of 5A and something like 1500mA while communicating.

The one I pictured is 2.1A on the top port, 1A on the bottom port. Look really closely at the image and you can see this printed on it.

Yeah, these charge ratings are vastly in excess of the official USB spec, which is 500ma per port under 2.0, and 900ma per port under 3.0.

It's not uncommon for some higher-current USB devices (portable hard drive, oscilloscopes, etc) to come with a special cable which has two A connectors on the host side; one carries power and data, the other carries power only. This was they can cheat the spec and draw up to 1000ma.

Tolerances on the host side vary somewhat as well. For instance, I have an old 2.5" portable hard drive that runs just fine on a single port when plugged into a couple of my computers (including the new E4200 laptop) but which just sits there and clicks if plugged into other of the computers (including the old Vaio laptop) without either an external supply or the Y-cable. The drive itself (a 40GB unit built in 2006) is rated at 700ma according to the label on the top.

I'm an clearly an electrical engineer.

Why does my phone charge so much faster with the new Duracel cig-adapter than the china-cig-adapder? We're talking 5+ hours to charge my phone on the China-dapter, 1 hour on the new one.

All my external 2.5" enclosures require the Y-cable (unless I use an eSATA cable, then only one USB is needed)

It has been commonly noted that tablets and the such charge more slowly from a computer's USB port than the wall outlet.

Basically I'm just agreeing with everyone and increasing my post count so I can sell shady items to you suckers

The ampere (SI unit symbol: A), often shortened to amp, is the SI unit of electric current

In practical terms, the ampere is a measure of the amount of electric charge passing a point in an electric circuit per unit time with 6.241 1018 electrons, or one coulomb per second constituting one ampere.

Ex: Take a hose and try to fill a bucket with the faucet barely turned on, then try to fill an equivalent volume bucket with the faucet at full blast. Notice the time differential

Because of everything that everyone has been saying since post #14,814. Your old, crappy charger is clearly not capable of delivering as much current as the phone wants to consume, whereas your new hotness charger is. Same as the one I pictured many posts ago, which clearly has the current ratings printed on the port-side.
