Default Hyabusa V8 Atom

At my ORP track day monday, Palatov brought out their Atom they've been working on. Hyabusa V8 transplant sound like fun to you? 2.8L NA V8 putting out 400hp at 10,000rpms! Thing sounds like an F1 car. They are going to be introducing conversion kits for sale. The developement car is for sale at a measly $125K! Of course the motor alone is over 30k.

Here's the for sale thread at the SCCA forum. SCCAForums.com - FS: world's only V8 ariel atom!

And a link to the V8 Hyabusa producer. HOME PAGE...

Couple of pics I took with the phone.

Only 200lbs for the complete engine. Perfect for building a monster Atom.

I would usually say I jizzed in my pants here....but this is beyond that.

I think that after seeing that I won't even be able to get it up for the missus this evening without coming back in here and taking a look at this again.

Though it looks mighty nice, without video/audio, this is far less impressive. I want an eargasm.

There is not a lake large enough to contain the drool I am producing, not to mention the jizz... wow... If I had the means...

'Tis a thing of beauty. (And potential awe inspiring brutality.) However I still think this is the best picture of an Ariel Atom:
(Do note the fairings and wing, indicating an estimated 500-hp V-8 mounted behind the Sith Lord...)

Honestly, I was a little disappointed with that video. I expected something more outrageous sounding.

As was I. Not as ridiculous as I expected, both speed and sound.

The guy driving it in the video was definitely not 'up to speed'.
Car = awesome
Driver = not so awesome

That track is bad ***! I got on the website and looked at pictures of the various corners. Very cool!

There is no way he was pushing it on that video. They only took it out for a few laps that day. Here is a quote from their website...
As you can see from the clip, I'm just being conservative (and lazy , using the power between corners in a point-and-shoot kind of way. The car easily has another 10 seconds in it, if I got some time to get more familiar with it and the track... As it is though, after a couple laps I once again got a mysterious misfire.
Here's the other Atom running that day. Driver is at least 400lbs! Passed him every session, lapping him on a couple.
Hyabusa V8 Atom-atom.jpg

This is the first year that track has been open and I've run it four times. It's in the middle of nowhere about 2 hours East of Portland. The town of Grass Valley where it is has a population of 170. The closest hotel is 30 miles away. The track is fantastic and I've promoted it as much as I can even though it's still being built out. At least all the curbing is in now and the entrance road is paved. The entry was 2 miles of very dusty gravel.

Curly and I ran last month, his car is apart and he couldn't go again on Monday. The drive up the Columbia River Gorge to get there is beautiful. Running with Palatov it's one group of cars and one group of bikes with 7 - 30 minute run sessions. Open passing by point by on the entire track. Absolutely kicks ***. The videos and pictures make the elevation changes look about 1/2 of what they really are.

Here's the R8 that was running Monday. Supercharged to 540hp, reworked brakes and r-comps, it was trailered to the track. Guy had a crowd around the car and talked a good game in the AM. By lunch everyone was spending more time around my Miata. The R8 was my bitch. If I were him I'd commit sepuku or sell the R8 and buy a Prius. I was running quicker than any car but a full race 350hp 944 with a very experienced racer behind the wheel. I'm not so talented but that track is perfect for smaller cars that handle well. Me coming in for the kill...
