should I be worried about using a quality synthetic for all the track use, or jump down in quality to the synchro mesh? I'm going to start swapping stuff over this weekend, and I'm picking up a spare trans supposedly this weekend...according the guy at the salvage yard who has a 1.8l motor for me.

Supposedly the Pennzoil Synchromesh available at advanced/autozone is the same thing as GM Synchromesh and it's cheaper.
Atleast that's what google turned up when doing a search and browsing a DSM forum.

I've used that in my vw and it worked well, but I don't know about heat range of the oil, and how much heat I'm making on the track. I imagine that if there is a possibility, I'll find it in a 250whp car in 100* track action.

hustler-if you are getting a back up tranny, might as well go for the Pennzoil Synchromesh and look for the difference between now and then and let everyone else know...go for it man

Pennzoil synchromesh is good from -40c - +150c or up to +284* F.

Sounds like it can handle the heat. Go the info from their own website.

+1 I used the pennzoil in my V6 cavalier. Worked like a charm and shifted great. Even with heavy drag racing and autoX in the heat it never gave me any troubles.

I was under the impression that allot of people used redline in their tranny in the Miata world... Is this an m.net thing?

I ran redline for about 6 weeks... it felt like poo. I like the mobile 1 better than redline but it still doesn't feel "right".

a lot of people do run it and claim it's awesome but they must not have tried anything better. my current favorite is still the amsoil synthetic. i'll report back if/when I put in the BG Synchroshift II.

redline sucks. Gear lash was ******* loud, didn't want to change gears properly, and have you ever seen what redline does to yellow metals?

I still think I need to give this **** a whirl over the synchromesh. But I'm going to try the synchro first.
