Default Winter beater #3

Well I've owned my miata for 3 years, and every year I buy a super cheap POS and drive it for the winter, then sell it for a profit in the spring.
Car #1 was a 1993? MX3. Had the 4 cylinder, 145,xxx miles. Bought for $600 and sold for $900. Car was in EXCELLENT shape inside and out, but the trans was going and it needed tires. Got the tires used at work for free and bought a trans out of the junkyard for $250. Really good deal, but I hated how the car drove. Huge blindspots and it was ugly.
Car #2 was a 1994 Geo Prizm. 205,xxx miles. Car didn't run when I bought it for $25 off my friend. Got it running, drove it and sold it for $500. Worst car I've ever owned. It broke down 17 times while I had it. I don't blame the cars design, as it was a decent car. But the one I had was just ready for the heap.
This years beauty, car #3 is a 1988 Honda accord LX. 175,xxx miles, auto with a carb'd 4 cyl. Bought for $500. I'm really happy with it, runs great. Exterior is beat to hell, but ironically the interior is near mint. Going to the junkyard sunday to buy some new panels for it, gonna spray paint it and keep it for as long as it runs. The other cars I bought were ready for the scrap heap, but this one has some life left in it.
Anyone else go through this? Its highly impractical, but I live at home and my mom doesn't want a winter car sitting around all summer.

Those are some funny numbers!

The A20A1 accord will last probably as long as you want it. I had a 89 LX. It was a third-gen. family-owned, purchased new. Great car, little small.

From what I see it will last forever. Within a 3 block radius there is 5 of em, all still running. The junkyard near my house has at least 10 in stock at any given day.

Seems like a reasonable strategy but its nice to know a car before you drive it all winter. I made that mistake last winter and I regretted it. Now the car is ready, maybe.

this year i sold my eclipse to buy something nice, then crashed the miata so plans got messed up. ended up getting an 87 mazda b2600 SE5 with a plow for $400. been driving it for the past 7 months, probably getting a new truck though and getting rid of this one soon. In 7 months it's gotten me to work and back every single day.

I want an old import pickup SO bad! I've been looking for one around the detroit area but they are either way to expensive or are in really bad shape. A few blocks over is an old Izuzu pup, I love how it looks. And yeah, its not the best way to go about it. I work in an autoshop so thankfully if it breaks down fixing it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Yay for pictures!
Its "pretty" side. Needs some spray paint, and some rust cleaned up. And notice where it was egged on the hood.

Its "ugly" side. Fenders are SO hard to find for this damn car. Out of 12 cars I was only able to get the front fender and door, and this rear door.

And the awsome power of the A20A1! It runs like new actually, really impressed with it at such high mileage (175). Major problem with an oil leak that drips on the exhaust pipe and starts smoking, but I think I should be able to track it down.

Not bad for $500, some TLC and I've got myself a beater

I've got an '86 CRX I use as a winter beater. Paid $800 for it last November and haven't looked back since. Gets good gas mileage and hasn't had a hiccup since I got it.

Buying a beater was the best thing I ever bought for my other car.

But its big. My driveway is 3 cars wide, and about 1 and a 1/2 miatas long. F-150= way too big. I wouldn't mind a ranger or s-10...I just want a little truck. Theres something about the people here though, they will NOT sell their trucks.
