i did that in the civic all day,
every day, about 60 times a day
on the way to work,
on the way to the mall,
on the way home from work
on the way to the track,
on the way to get my oil changed,
on the way to the store to pick up pop corn
on the way to my friends house,
and any other time i drove the car

the miata... also,, everywhere i went, redline for the first 3 gears

but now that im boosted, like cardriverx said, i dont have much of a need

*edit* i know the gauge was cold, it wasn't hooked up,
i had a triple gauge pod that had water oil temps and pressure for oil
and the check engine was because the car couldn't figure out where the old motor went,
and what this new monstrosity was

I never used to take my engines to red line untill I got the rx7. Now its a daily work out and find myself doing it in my miata.

P.s. You should paint the red-line pink so it dont scare you. lol sorry i had to join the burning.

HAHA even when it's cold^^

i actually got my stock needle stuck just past 8k on the civic,
there was a little barb thing that was just at the 8.4 mark, and i got it stuck
i had to take it all apart, and the the barb out, the motor went to about 9k lol

What engine did you have in the civic? A B series?
I have a friend with an H22 in an EF. Its pretty beasty, but its got some nasty traction problems.

I'm sure you could fit a v8 into your miata. but then you'd bitch about taking it over 4 grand.

****, where did you find a Type R in Mass?
The H22 is a sexy engine. My friend got his from hmotors. Don't know if you've ever heard of them...pretty good prices though.
What got you out of hondas and into miatas?

knew a import shop in jap land, they shipped it to this kid in Virginia,
who then changed his mind on it.
i was looking for a motor on hmotors(yes ive heard of them)
then i stumble upon this motor, and i jumped on it
23 hours later, i had it in my room.
2 weeks after that, i had it at 9k

I don't like redline in my car as much as my buddies NA. I attribute that to my small turbo that doesn't pull quite as good up top. The turbo scream is much much more intense than the scream of your engine at redline, be prepared, break in the vagina.

Put a post it on your tach and just drive until it slows down then shift. FWIW my TA is the only vehicle i have that has a rev limitt of less than 6.5 hell i spin my bike to 13K all the time it is great fun.

Sam: Don't be a *****. Running a miata to redline is what it was built for!!

These are all N/A:

He ran out of gas in that one.

I have HOURS worth of that car doing donuts on film...
This car has 210,000 miles, 60,000 have been suprcharged. I lost count 4 years ago how many 7000rpm clutch dumps we've done in that car. Seriously its seen at LEAST 1000 miles of life doing donuts!! No Bullshit! They're tough tough tough little engines!

i feel your pain sam, i hardly ever take my car up to redline because it stops making power before then and because the transmission sounds like its gonna go all grenade next to my thigh. It does feel a lot more comfortable taking the 240 to redline even though it stops making power WWAAAYYYY before then, probably because it sounds better doing it?

Seriously.. My crotch rocket (1993 w/40,000 miles on it) can handle bouncing off the limiter @ 14,100rpm for 20 minutes straight, then about 10 hours of riding in 2nd gear from 4-14,000rpm.... I think our B series engines can handle it just fine. Think about it, larger displacement engines have low end grunt and don't need to spin to oblivion... 4 cylinders need to make up for that lack of low end power by spinning higher to make upper rpm power. Ever notice the smaller the engine, usually the higher the redline?

Ferrari F355, 3.5 liter V8, 375bhp @ 8250rpm, redline... 8500rpm.. Small motor, makes plenty of torque, but has to spin higher to get the upper power.

I upped the rev limit in MS and use the limiter pretty regular... it's no big deal.

I remember back when I bought my miata and it turned 4k rpm at highway speeds. Every 10 miles or so I would let it coast because it just made me nervous.

Then I did one track day, then another, and another...so basically I did roughly 35 hours of track time last season on a 150k mile motor. You're fine dude.
