Default I learnt me something...thanks fellas!

Well...I spent the better portion of 5 hours last night on megasquirts website reading about tuning and the VE theories etc and also ordered Corky's Maximum Boost since you tend to hear it worth reading...and I need all the learning I can get.

Just figured I'd post up and say thanks for all the help you guys give with my stupid *** questions as I found a lot of answers to them last night (and got a lot more )

Any other need to read stuff out there though?

There is a lot more to read, but get through MB first. You'll find it worthwhile and it will give you a good base to work from.

You're on the right track definitely, familiarize yourself with MS-Extra.

Carol Smith's books are also worth a read, but more related to racing. Engineering to Win, Driving to Win, Tuning to Win (suspension not engines), Nuts, Bolts, and Fasteners (includes performance plumbing), and there is one more in the series but I can't remember it off hand... I own all of them except the one I can't remember.

Those books will come in handy if you every DIY car parts instead of buying them all.

I posted it in the MS post I made, but is this right: theres MS-1 and MS-2, then the different board version for MS-2...v2...v3? and MS-extra is just firmware/software that will work with MS-2, any board? or did I screw that up somewhere? Its just a lot of boards...and versions...and new updates...its confusing to one who hasn't done it.

MS2 is MS2.

MS1 has two board V2 and V3. MSnS-E is for MS1.

ah, so I got it backwards...

so most of you guys are running MS1? If I were to buy/build which one would be preferred?

Another vote for Corky Bell's book Maximum Boost. Last chapter is installing a turbo kit in a Miata. I'm still reading and learning. He posts quite a bit on the Miata.net forum

MS1 V3 was my choice... the V2 can't run low impedance injectors without an added flyback board. The MS2 has less documentation on how to make it work on miatas.

I believe everyone on here is running MSNSE on a V3 board. Except for the guy that got it working on MSII. arga?

I couldn't run my low impedance injectors without tach signal spikes, not sure what the problem was with that.

Anybody know which one kingofl337 builds? MS1 V3 also?

As I said, building it scares me, b/c I don't know how to solder...or anything...but you guys keep saying its easy.

My guess would be that the flyback circuit needed for the low impedance injectors was interfering with the tach circuit... moving the ground for one or the other to an external source (rather than board common ground) would probably fix that.

Yeah, this is probably the case, but I had a DSM resistor pack on hand, and 15minutes of wiring later it was running perfectly.
