FYI - his name and address are in the account mgmt info. Mine is password locked though - so I'm assuming you might want to start guessing his PW. 4 digits...try the basics 1-2-3-4...0-0-0-0

lol, and the colsole freezes after about 50 sec of being on. Sounds like this is going to be fun. I wish I could just find a decription key for the harddrive haha.

If it's "overheating" or thinks it is, maybe some effort could be spent resolving the defect? I understand that some make a business out of buying and fixing for resale busted consoles. Apparently, many can be fixed in 20 minutes. Just a thought.

Sounds like it's very close to the yellow light of death. Can be easily fixed with patience, a screwdriver, HeatSink compound, and a heat gun.

Here is what it does exactly (if I can fix it, I am totally up for it):

1 Turns on fine, runs for about 45 sec

2 The screen starts getting artifacts

3 After about 3 sec, the whole screen has a "plaid" like pattern on it, with repeateing green dots.

4 After about 5 sec, it freezes.

5 Will not restart unless I let it sot for a hour or more.

It really reminds me of the NES days where if the cartridge was not in just right, the screen would get odd patterns on it than the NES would freeze.

Can that be fixed?

irony is fixing the PS3 and then not having a reason to 'get the scammer' because it works.

Why "get" someone?

OP learned a lesson about buying used electronics from an unknown person who advertised for free on a site which promises no protections.

Given that you can fix many common PS3 woes in 20 minutes, I'd say it's worth looking into. Hours of time has been spent on the "get the guy" strategy, some of the recommendations are unwise or bordeline illegal as in the stalking and confronting by surprise at home stuff, interrogating his family, etc.

Next time be more careful with future purchases, lesson learned. Take some responsibility.

That's why you focus on getting the scammer first. Only after you have raped and pillaged do you fix the broken **** he sold you. It's win-win.

Most NES cartridges are over 18 years old at this point so blowing them isn't illegal.
