the Atom 500 will boast one of the highest power to weight ratios ever for a production car, ever. At over 1000bhp per tonne the Atom 500 will be the ultimate statement in performance and is destined to be made in a limited edition.

The 500 started life as a one off special project with RS Developments in 2007 and features the Russell Savory designed 2.4 litre V8 engine coupled to a 6 speed sequential Sadev gearbox. Developing over 500bhp at 10,000rpm the supercharged engine features all alloy construction, 5 valves per cylinder and a dry sump. The gearbox will have flatshift capability, a paddle gearchange with manual override as well as launch and traction controls.

Sick. Doesn't look like enough tire for all that power though. Would be nice to have a windscreen option too. That much power could muss my hair.

And it will probably cost less than most "competition" that can't keep up.

When I was building my Locost, I was following this build on the LocostUSA site.http://www.locostusa.com/forums/view...&highlight=The guy is building his own Atom from scratch. He tood dimensions from an actual car and went from there. Lots of work invested. Take a look at his build thread.

If the original was "so quick, it can destroy your entire face", what does this one destroy...your bowels?

Marriages, and checking accounts, 'bout it.

That's fantastic. Needs more tire though.
Also, I want a real manual transmission, and you can delete all the fancy electronics. The fact that the technology allows you to go faster only matters against the clock. Vehicles like that need to be kept bare and raw. Too much technology kills the purity.

Also to be built in Virginia FTW... at VIR. Spoke with them in June at their display and they confirmed plans for track sessions using a fleet of their cars too. You pay you play.

Sorry, but I disagree completely. Purity asside, I'm pretty sure it NEEDS those technologies/safety features for anyone who is not a race car driver. I can imagine that thing's a handful.

Not sure if it's the same one I'm thinking of (the Christine engine) but that one was made from a pair of Hayabusa motorcycle engines. Basically the stock bike cylinder blocks and heads sitting on a custom crankcase. It makes a very pleasing noise.

Competition? What competition? The original Atom is already near the top of the LapTimes board, beating out everything made by Porsche, Lambo, Mercedes, Lotus, BMW, GM...

Also makes a pleasing 380 NA HP. Who knows how much boosted, but I have seen a turbo busa Caterham with 400hp. I'd guess it would get into the 650-700 range. But at $30K for the 2.4 motor, ya pay, ya can play.

Atom doesnt count, its not really in the same class at all.

Its like bringing a jet car to a drag strip to participate in the 14 second class.
Lol its got four wheels, its a totally fair race.

The Atom is capable of legally driving on the street and getting over a speedbump, therefore it counts.

Them's the rules.

No it does not count.

It is most definitely not in the same class. Its closer to a four wheeled motorcycle then a car.
