Right, can you not "skip" gears on downshifts with SRAM? I don't really like the way downshifting works on Shimano levers because it's not precise. One sweep can be 1-3 gears with a slight variation depending upon where you are in the cassette stack. It should be on gear per sweep, like a racecar.
Sorta like not being able to turn off traction control or skip shift a manual trans in a car. arrghs

I like the way shifting works on my SRAM X7 MTB. Sequential unless you are unequivocally shifting multiple gears.

I hopped on the scale last night and im huge. (187lbs... not a PR for heaviness but its bad) Im sure the week of all-inclusive vacation I just got off of didn't help.
I need some ice tires for my MTB to get it out of the basement.

I never had any trouble shifting the Shimano. I've not raced with the SRAM but I don't see that it would be a problem either. I have a bunch of friends that still race and are riding SRAM. I've not heard any complaints. Now granted, most of my friends are just lowly Cat 3's.

My SRAM don't just do one gear per click. The up shift lever will multi click. Meaning Push a little and get a click and one gear, jam it like you thumb in a butt and get a get ish per click. About 3 at a time. To go down if you jab the down lever a bunch it will skip gears. Like 3 quick clicks and it will jump down that many. Still new to MTB and this winter and ruined any progress I made in fall.
Oh: SRAM X5 on a 2x10 29'r I might go 1x10. No reason. Just don't seem to use the 2 up front and really never use my top 6 ratios. Trails here are not fast enough.

You make far too much wattage to ride such a fragile mersheen. It's definitely too nice for me to ride, and I don't now how I'd post-up on the top-tube and troll Freds in comfort. I'm already too afraid to scratch my bicycle, luckily the chain already smashed the stay a few times and scraped through the anodizing.

1185g (pair), cost about $450 to build from ebay parts and spokes from wheelbuilder.com
Unfortunately, safe carbon clincher tech hasn't quite reached ebay yet. My tubulars have old school slippery brake tracks and require pricey swissstop pads in the rain or mud.

Would you recommend tubulars for someone just doing casual riding and a few nice weather commutes?
I have been hard into the thought of the kinlin wheels, but im not sure how much weight will be noticeable when doing my casual rides. Making for faster acceleration and when aero becomes a factor.
on my vintage bike it wasnt a concern but now that im going to have a sub 20lb carbon bike i feel like it might make more sense to explore these options.
Secondly, how would you know what carbon wheels would need the special brake pads?

I have inquired about getting wheels from this guy with more spokes... i think 20h in front on a carbon wheel seems scary with my 180lb body over them.
