haha no way i could handle it. Thats a fast ride even if they arent being competetive and are just training.





I went for a 1h ride where I pushed myself most of the time... long intervals basically.

Im getting faster. That new rear tire seems fine. Cant tell if its more plush or not, but it feels like it, even though its a 23c vs the old tire at a WIDE 25. the new tire is a lot smaller diameter which i think is weird.

Another weird thing is either my bottom bracket or my right pedal is creaking when my right leg is in the power portion of the stroke...heavy load. weird, but oh well.


LOL at bike rules. I just ride for fun and its fun for me to push myself as hard as I can.


I should really get a garmin with HR and cadence... but i think i will save that for next year so i still have a wife to ride with.

try pulling your bottom bracket and either greasing the threads or teflon tape+ grease on the threads- it usually stops the creaks.




on the subject of hard rides, I raced singlespeed xc last thursday. couldn't decide if I wanted to throw up or **** my pants for the entire hour. can't wait to do it again. lol

I would do just the opposite by checking it for roundness with a bore gauge and then re-install with bearing compound. If it's not round, line-bore that ****.

For SRS. Lubricating a press-fitting like that is the opposite direction I'd go. Usually bottom brackets make noise because they are out of round in the world of CAAD10.

ah- i thought they were threaded.


to fix loose/creaky press fit on carbon bikes i've wrapped the bearing in electrical tape and hammered in. lol ghetto fixing $8k bikes

Cannondale is dumb, I'm fairly certain they weld after machining the BB30 fitting, so none of them are really round.

Some people use Loctite 642 for a removable retaining solution. Canondale recommends Loctite 609 for some installations, but the 642 will work with greater clearances. If my BB30 starts creaking, that's what I'm going to use.

My BB is threaded. non press fit.

I think it was my pedal to be honest. its a super cheap welgo pedal.





On another note, is heart rate really worthwhile to have when riding? Im looking at some Garmins right now and im not sure if I would use heart rate or not.

If you want to get faster/better, HR is hugely helpful. A power meter is better, but HR is available at a small fraction of the cost.

Yes. I also use it to know when I'm working and when I'm acting like a crybaby ------ and need to "sur la plaque, ************" and get up front. I will give-in and get a Stages meter pretty soon. I thought I'd be able to resist, but after last night I want to properly train to crush the groups I ride with, hopefully in the next five years because I'm a slow douche now.

Does 30 miles and 1900' of climbing at 18.5mph mostly solo garner any respect from California crew? Am I still your bottom?

this my commute/workout morning ride on my crossrip with fenders, panniers and 32c tires. I also had my lunch, clothes and some car parts in said panniers that I need to return to NAPA this afternoon (probably 35 lbs?).


Edit: oh yeah- t-shirt, baggies, visor on helmet, mtb shoes etc. etc.

This. I use it mostly to gauge perceived intensity vs. actual intensity. It's not perfect, but it's as close as you'll get without spending $600+ on a power meter.

Correct.

1) HR is a lagging indicator
2) Other factors effect HR other than actual effort. Heat, disease, fatigue are some that will increase heart rate and make you think you are training hard, but not training wise.

Power Meter is a load dyno. Tells the whole truth all the time.

I used HR for years. Now I ride more for pleasure, and THINK I know my body well enough to train without it. If I were starting out, I would be using one or a power meter. If I train for a specific goal and want to be at my very best, I will get one or the other.

Now, train based on that I know that when my forearms start to go numb, I am in oxygen debt.

So glad its not just me. Havent thought of this after a ride.

Does the tip of your nose sometimes go numb too, or is that just Canada being cold?

LOL, I don't recall the nose. Just forearms and fingers.

In the cold, nose runs like crazy, though. Good way to unstop plugged sinuses is to ride in the cold.
