save your money. road bikes are all the same.
Yesterday I realized that there's a network of single track-type trails that go throughout the metroplex, which I should be riding in addition to road cycling. It also might be more fun in the winter.

The road bike is going nowhere, regardless of it's material.

is there something similar with disc in your budget?

I dislike water (be it rain, puddles or whatever) and rim brakes. for anything but fair weather road riding I would try to find something with disc IMO.

If hussy already has wheels, the 105 parts and a seat + seat post he likes why not just buy a caadX frame and fork and swap parts from one caad to the other?

I will still ride the CAAD10 road bike daily, Cannondale won't sell a bare frame, and it's a gravel bike so I wouldn't want my road stuff on it getting torn up nor dirty. The road bike is holy.

That too, but it's a little unreasonable to assume I'd disassemble my road bike to go ride on dirt every time. Yes, N+1 and it's relatively inexpensive.

I had to hang a third hook this weekend for the Wifebike, but I still "need" a cross bike.

Didn't realize caad x was a cross bike.

do you have a 29er mtb? i thought I saw a picture of it somewhere in this thread. If so- swap it to cross tires and ride that?

Nothing promotes the joy of a quick ride on dirt paths like disassembling 80% of your bike every time you want to ride your other bike. I get annoyed when I have to move my spares bag from one bike to the other, dude. This is kind of a ridiculous suggestion.

My luggage takes a little weight out of the jersey, which makes 10%+ grades a little more comfortable. Not that you would know

It's also a great place to put your mustache wax and single-barrel filled flask when riding your fixie to hear bands we've never heard of.

Got to take a ride on my favorite socal trail this last weekend. San Juan Trail. 25 miles, 3500 climibing of nothing but single track. On the way out to the trail it was nothing but smoke from the Pendleton and San Marcos fires but the bike gods shined upon us and cleared the smoke about 2 miles before we got to the trail head.

I've been shopping for a new dirt rig... Rented this Santa Cruz 5010 carbon for the day. Mind blowing bike to be honest. 1x11 and weighs around 26lbs. Prob the best mixed use bike I've ever ridden. Was also my first 650b bike that I've ridden... currently I own a trail geo 29r hard tail. Let's just say I'm shopping for a new FS 650b.

Pic is from Cocktail Rock and my buddies 2010 specialized enduro is in front. You can see the nasty smoke/air quality in the distance.

That video kills me. Dude's heart had to be so jacked-full of blow and EPO that it was ready to explode. Contador routinely went up cat 1 and HC climbs in the 53 in the EPO era.
