9 pm and it is still 96F outside. It hit 103F yesterday; we broke the record for highest temperature for the day. Old record was 102F in 1980.

It is going to be (already is) a hot freaking summer. I'll be road racing in this heat in about two weeks, in full leathers of course. Not looking forward to that...

On a positive note, the Texas Brown Grass is filling in nicely though. That **** is hearty, no watering needed, loves full sunlight.

You aren't shitting. I've been about to die so far, and its not even the hottest 2 months around here yet. Our record high is 107 in 2007. GLOBAL WARMING! I would have thought you guys would have higher records than that. Nothing beats a month or two of ~100 heat and 60-80 percent humidity in July and August! In just the time it takes to walk out to the car and start it up and get the a/c blowing, I'm already ruining my clean clothes and fresh shower.

If it was 100*, I wouldn't be complaining. One thing I learned in the gulf is that US heat is nothing. Try 130* in June and 125* in August (humidity rolls in in August too).

****, send that precipitation down here. We need it badly, really badly. We are in an all-time record drought, been going on for two years now. Our county has been under a burn-ban almost continuously for that time. Aerial fireworks have been banned for July 4th (a very good idea to ban them). The output of the well feeding my house is even starting to fall off.

I was running a 102.6 fever Thursday(strep). I hung out at work until 3pm and then headed to doctor's appointment. My black Miata was so ******* hot I thought I was going to pass out. Driving up there to get an injection was the most grueling task of my life. Weak, sweating profusely, body aching, barely able to pay attention to traffic and unable to touch any controls (shifter, steering wheel) for more than 0.02sec at a time.

This *weather* ******* sucks. I think it was officially 104* that day. Yesterday didn't seem so bad, but I am on antibiotics now...

Either way we need some rain. I'm looking forward to taking my daughter to see fireworks again this year, and don't think Harris or Montgomery County has put a burn ban in place yet.

Just checked Fire Marshall's site...we're on burn bans with no aerials as well.

I love running and even i've stopped. I dont remember a summer when I have ever said Its to damn hot to go run.
We've hit over 100 for 4 days in row I think. Today is supposed to be 100 but with the heat index it should be closer to 108

95 and humid here... last night the metro stations had the A/C off for some reason. it was like that first 2 minutes you get in your car when it's sitting in the sun on a hot day but there was no air circulation at all.

then later a crazy thunderstorm ripped through and soaked my ***.

I interned in Houston one summer several years ago. I am sure it is really bad there too right now. I thought you guys were doing OK on rainfall this year, guess not.

I took a business trip out to San Fran a few years ago in June. It was really hot here then. I get to SF and it was 70F, light breeze, blue skies. Awesome. At night we needed coats (insert Sam Clements summer in SF quote here). Then I get back to SA... It is always the first thing that hits me when I step off of the plane and onto the walkway, the humidity. It feels like walking into a sauna.

Laredo has to be a real MF right now. It gets ridiculously hot there too. Let me check...
Yep, 11 am, 92F, 102F heat index. Temperature is expected to reach 106F, heat index 110F.

Someone mentioned the Middle East gulf area. I work with a guy that traveled there for business. He said the same things, the heat is insane, AND it is humid. I've also spent time at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Grounds (YPG) in Arizona in the summer. Hot there too. They constantly broadcast the wet and dry bulb temperatures over the radio. If the wet bulb temp goes over 98 deg, everyone working outside packs it up for the day, no matter what. Apparently a few years ago there were some contractors involved in testing that were left out far away from the main base area by accident; YPG is a huge place. They died before they could walk back to civilization. Sure it is a 'dry heat' but it is still deadly.

So judging by this thread, I'm going to have a great time at basic training (Lackland AFB, TX) in a month. My acclimation to Wisconsin weather will not help, I think.

You will be in black flag conditions though probably, which means you will spend much of your time indoors in the barracks. Kind of sucks, but keeps you out of the heat marching in uniform at least. Have fun at the new extended weakling basic training with your stress cards and crap.

Edit: Supposed to only get up to 99 here today, with a heat index of 105. Right now its 11am and its 94 feels like 102 and humidity of 49%

It happens from time to time, especially during a PT test. People are pushing themselves to do their best, whether to merely pass or to gain a reward (promotion points, exemption, or bragging rights). Throw in some heat and the risk escalates... We had a soldier in my company die while I was in AIT in Arizona, and he was only marching!

I wouldn't be surprised if someone died. Once again I usually have the summer off as a teacher and love to run around noon to heat stress my body. It pays off in the winter running season as it gives me more stamina, but F'it. I ran once in the heat this summer and have decided run before 8 or after 8, not in between.


heat index 105 here. no wonder I almost passed out. Came to my parents house to wash the car and visit. I was drenched after working on the car for 30 minutes. I was going to clay bar and wax, forget it. Not many times that I will choose doing my grad work as relief from the heat.
