i ask as a father, not as a person who can put the seats down.

though I do love that the countryman has 3 moving parts that you can flip down so you can still rock a childseat or two and carry long items.

I looked at the CT as an option but at MSRP, it's a cost of ownership loser to pretty much everything that gets over 35-40 mpg.

I post this as a father too. And yes, I completely agree - new msrp is too rich for my blood. We never buy new cars. Ever. Just don't like throwing money away for no reason.

Well the question was if I would buy one, and even in your exact situation no I wouldn't. BUT it sounds like the perfect fit for what you want, and you're in a spot to move to it while putting yourself in a better financial situation. Win win.

I hear you, and get where you're coming from.

Right now, honestly, my biggest consideration is if the premium interior and better outside looks are worth the almost 10mpg drop in economy, and around 7k price increase.

If our Prius was a base model it'd be easier, but ours already has the leather, the navi, and a lot of the gizmos the Lex offers, so it's less of an upgrade.

It's the toyota/lexus variant of literally the same car and same trim with the same options it looks like.

*edit: and they are the same dark gray color too

Wait wait... 10 mpg drop in econ? Is there at least a power increase to go with that? If not then screw that.

Quick Google search says no. What's the point then? Give up that much MPG for some slicker accoutrements?

Nope.

I'm guessing weight and aero.

That's the thing about the Prius: it spent SERIOUS time in a wind tunnel, and despite everyone laughing at it's looks, it is one of the few cars that was literally designed with Function>Form in mind.

I heard something about it being more aerodynamic than some lambo's or something. I forget where I heard that, but I was not surprised. The drag coefficient numbers are impressive.

I have no input other than to wonder:

Why are your parents selling a car they've only had for 3k miles?

Do they haz opulence?

We looked at those until the wife drove a '15 Mazda 6 Grand Touring, smaller car for money and not THAT much nicer.

She kills it with mpg in the 6 though.

they still haz the other one, and keeping it.
my dad quickly learned that driving a car like this to work (metal fabricator/welder) is very very foolish. went and bought an 04 with 150k miles that he won't care about destroying the interior in

That's funny.

The newest Mazda3 is the car to beat for cost:mpg. Gets insanely good mpg in both motors.

She has the Tech Package (which adds the I-Eloop and some shutters on the front grill), I think she is routinely seeing 41-42mpg on the highway.

Not that much less than the Mazda 3 SkyActiv, but the extra space/luxury is worth it.

We do 99% city driving, and 1% hwy.

So city mpg is that much more important to us.
