Default So who has an Android phone?

Just got a HTC hero, I am loving the interface. Ive messed with my buddys iphone a lot, and the whole android system with HTC's sense UI on it is so flexible and awesome to tinker with compared to the iphone.

Only complaint I have about the Hero is the processing power, It does occasionally lag, but overall is just as speedy as a iphone 3g.

Anyone else have a android phone?

i do! it does lag every once in a while but i'm loving all the things it does.
if you track your car, or auto-x, you gotta download this app. it only costs $5 and you get most of the features of a $600-1000 dollar gps based lap timer. (like maxQ or traqmate)

Trackaroo - Welcome

there's also an app if you run, walk, or bike for excercise called "cardiotrainer"
it's like a traqmate for humans. it's awesome and it's free.

I recently purchased a HTC Hero as well.

I emailed the Trackaroo developer RE:HTC's UI and external GPS BluTooth antenna support. He said that Android's newest version will support the external GPS antenna and that Trackaroo should offer support sometime in mid-Dec.

For all of us with Hero phones, we'll have to wait for the newest update, but it's already in the wild.

My favorite app right now is the Google maps with crowd-sourced traffic. Trapster is reasonably useful too.

I've got a HTC Dream (aka t-mobile G1). It's a badass phone. I put a Cyanogen ROM on it and now it's my primary internet connection via usb or wifi tethering (live in a dorm w/o free internet access atm). It's also been a lifesaver to get quick directions, phone numbers, etc., since I move around a lot. How do you guys like using touch screen for typing? I guess I'm old school, hence having the keyboard on my phone. I feel like I'm faster that way.

That Trackaroo is an awesome app...will definitely have to get it once I get back to racing this spring. How do you guys like using touch screen for typing? I guess I'm old school, hence having the keyboard on my phone. I feel like I'm faster that way.

I have a Motorola Droid and I am very happy with it. I have had it since launch day and have had next to no problem. I will be checking out trackaroo. It looks like an interesting app.

Now my next question is would any one be interested in a datalogger for MS for the android platform? It is something I am thinking of developing.

100% YES. Ill just grab a 16gb micro sd card.

Now if you could get it to do tuning using a usb connection a la palm... I would pay for that.

I don't mind it, I mean I wish the screen was a little bigger but it works fine for me. With the T9 prediction I can type pretty fast too. I tried the Tilt2 keyboard, and my god is it glorious...

I would buy the phone just for that app if you made it.

I got the Droid primary because it comes with a real keyboard. I cannot go to just a touchscreen, I need to be able to feel where my fingers are.

As for a data-logging app it is something I am toying with in the back of my mind. I have to do some research on how feasible it would be to program. Realistically I want a MegaTune like app so that I could actually tune. I also need to research either using USB or Bluetooth. I really want to be able to tune wirelessly over bluetooth with the phone, but I am not sure if it is feasible.

How do you like the keyboard? I'm hearing mixed opinions on it. I'm a Verizon lifer and will be upgrading at the end of the month. I don't text much, and in the Verizon world, the ERIS is looking like the killer smart phone right now. I really REALLY want Google nav.

Keyboard is a bit small, but after a little bit you get used to it. Hardest things are using numbers and I would have preferred if the arrow pad was on the left side instead of the right.

I have not tried out the Eris but I can say out of the 50 or so people in line at 7am on launch day no one was getting one. Also the Eris is running android 1.6 as opposed to 2.0 on the Droid. Google Navigation is awesome. Used it to get to the fall NE dyno day and it worked great, just make sure you get a car charger.

Is MegaTune a java based app? Since it's open source, I assume the specification for how to communicate with a MS is out there and pretty easy to duplicate?

As far as using bluetooth, is there any real work that would need to be done on the MS ROM or would the bluetooth adapter simply have to be made discoverable and all of the details of communication could be handled by the adapter's firmware, with the MS just seeing data as it would over a wired usb connection?

Man I really gotta find something to keep my programming knowledge up to date now that I've changed career fields. I'd go back to programming ASAP if I could find a job doing tuning related projects.

Well since the eris and the hero are very similar, hopefully they both will be getting the 2.1 update. I tried the droid, and the keyboard was ok... Screen is phenomenal tho!

shuiend- I would highly recommend programming it for a usb cable. I hate blutooth, it never works right. And count me in if you make an app, try making a thread about it there are a few programmers on here. Hell id help with basic stuff since I know a little C... but no java or whatever android uses...
