Default Tap and dye set

Having a heck of a time trying to find just dyes. Everything I can think of to search for shares a word with clothing dying. Like thread, and bolt. Is it possible to just buy single dye?

It is possible. However, if you don't plan on using it all the time. Buy a cheap set from harbor freight. Get a st that also includes NPT taps. You will need one eventually. I would also get their large set with the 12x1.25 tap. It's an odd size. If you ever strip a 10x1.25 on the miata and have to helicoil, then the 12x1.25 will be the tap you need.

Go to Sears. They have tap, die, and tap and die sets of all different sizes. They're not the cheapest but they're better than the cheap HF junk.
If you were cleaning up small fasteners and threaded holes on the miata the HF kit would be alright for a use or two.

Watch craigslist for a retiring mechanic selling all his stuff. SnapOn tap set FTW.

Strictly speaking as a Machinist, neveer Buy cheep taps and Dies.If you ever break a tap off in a hole, the part will most likely be junk.A die that has a inferior geometry and heattreat will tear the threads, ruining the part.I only buy quality stuff from the supplier my companies deal with, they lasta lot longer,I have some that have tapped hundreds of holes.Mcmaster ,Enco,Tru-cut are good suppliers.

Lowes sells them. I happened to need one when I buggered up a bolt in my Lotus seat. Only place in town still open was Lowes and the only metric tap they had was in a set of 30. So............ I now have a whole set of tap and die.
