Good News: Car can still hang with an EVO

Bad News: Clutch failed; going to buy an ACT and sell this POS Clutchnet bullshit.


its been fine all week, dunno what the deal is. Shifted down on my way to work into 3rd, shuddered really bad. I immediately feel the clutch pedal get engine vibrations and feel rough. I hear the TOB whine when i press the pedal down and I have to slam it into gear. I guess the TOB failed, I'm not sure, but im tired of all the issues with Clutchnet related issues. Never had one problem with ACT so I'm going to go back to it. **** Clutchnet, **** Russians, **** Shims.

it still grabs. it failed half way to work. but it's like it won't disengage again, and now the TOB makes a rubbing noise when the pedal is down. the pedal effort is the same, but the pedal has major vibrations and feels rough when you press it, like it needs greasing.

I dont care if it's the shims that killed it, the TOB just happened to fail on it's own, or if i can't install a clutch...I just want it working correctly. So known good products it is: all new OEM bearings and ACT components.

I first had an ACT HD with street disc. It was great. However it started to slip at 200rwhp, dunno why but others saw more than that.

Then I swapped that for a Centreforce dual friction, cause my jew *** got a good deal. This held great, made over 230rwhp with it. when the weather tuned cold it started slipping and i had to lower my boost. When I pulled it off i saw the PP had two hot spots, so I guess ill blame incorrect torquing on this.

so when i swapped motors, i threw a 6-puck clutchnet disc in there, with the centreforce PP. it wouldn't disengage. so then i bought a clutchnet pp. it wouldn't disengage. then i shimmed the pp away from the flywheel and it worked fine...for 5 days.

Newbsauce called them yesterday to inquire about shimming his. .005" was the reply to how much shimming it required . At this point I think Clutchnet is full of Vodka and doesn't know ****. Brgracer has a 3x and no shims, while Trav had to shim his. It's bogus. I'd rather not have a PP in there that I have to shim to work correctly. Even if the TOB just happened to fail on coincidence, im tired of this. Dropping the tranny for the third time, even to replace a $20 part is not worth all this trouble, when I know an ACT kit will not give me trouble.

Did you put in a new TOB when you installed the clutch in your car? IIRC the OEM TOB is about $30.

I was going to go with a clutchnet disc for my act pp, but after your experience I'm going to get an ACT puck disc.

no the TOB had probably less than 5K miles on it, so i reused it. It looked brand new and spun if i coughed on it. I had replaced it with the centreforce clutch when i did that last year.

Exedy clutches work well too.... if you're on the stock flywheel.

how is your's holding up? how many washers did you use? I shimmed about 3-4mm worth. the thing was fine, but i have a feeling it wasnt enough and put too much pressure on the TOB, or something lame like that.

I have a shinny nickel that says your pressure plate is loose. If you have a bending bar type torque wrench, measure what it takes to break the bolts loose. Did you use thread locker on the bolts? I wouldn't have used those washers as a shim, plus your alignment pins aren't doing anything with it spaced.

i used red theadlocker and an impact wrench to put the flywheel on.

it was fine before this clutch deal, never took the flywheel off the block. It's not shimmed far enough that the pins don't hold it in place, as well as the 6 torqued bolts.

Pat - think about the axial load. Pins are going through the holes in the pp, so when it's engaged (clamping, spinning) the dowel pins are doing the same thing they always do. The bolts are what resists the spring force under clamping. Shims under the dowel pins are just sharing the seated load from the bolt torque.

That's gotta be the worst **** that can happen.Not only did you waste all that time installing and removing the tranny,you also wasted your money.I learned my lesson many years ago to never buy something just because it was cheap or got a good deal on it,I always buy whats been tried and proven and what works.
