OK. The emotions have settled and rational thought has hopefully returned. The Dems won huge due to an anti-Bush backlash whether it was his fault or not. This trickled down to the local level, not just the top offices.

In my state the Dems now have a supermajority in the state senate. No discussion is needed. They can enact anything they darn well please. They haven't taken office yet, aren't in session but already the tax hikes have started. The Governor has already anounced they will be tripling the cost of car registration and using the extra 500 million to create a transportation related jobs program.

Disgust over the president has created a situation where I believe emotion ruled the day.

Seriously. Now that the election is over and the public has had time to think about what they've done, I wonder how many people wish they could change their vote. Locally and nationally.

Anyone here regret their choices yet?

I dont regret my choice since I voted for Mccain....and I cant agree with you more: this time emotions were so overwhelming I think logic had little to do with the elections..oh well, whatever happens happens, its not like I like Mccain, just dislike Obama a little more. Both suck imo. People were crazy for change, well they'll get "change" well just have to sit back and see how they like it.

I smell 20+ pages in the near future for this thread

nah, i dont have much to say here other than:

living in the past (even a week) isn't very constructive.

those that voted for obama should be the first to criticize him for not living up to what they pledged their votes for.

well on the one hand, you get more legislation through the system when one party has both legislative and executive branches. on the other hand, it may not be the legislation you want

when the parties are different, you end up wasting a lot of time coming up with legislation that is immediately vetoed by the executive.

I wouldn't mind paying 180$(I currently pay somewhere around 60$) for a 2 year registration if I could have a working public transport in FL. Specifically revamping the rail system. Amtrak is a joke and its typically more expensive than me driving. I don't see what you're complaining about Cue.

I think emotion played a limited role if any actually. People voted the way they did because they didn't want another person who was in line with the current status quo of the government. Black people wouldn't have voted for Obama if he wasn't otherwise a good candidate, just like women didn't vote for the ticket that had Palin just because she was a woman.

I didn't like either, but here in Texas we are always Rep. And they are always selling us out to "out of country tollways",. our tax dollars build the road, and then they sell it to a forein country.
The poor fight the rich mans battles, and then we still get screwed on everything. Tax's should be a flate rate. Not the rich and poor get a break, and we get screwed.........

People should stand up. But to have great change, people almost just have to give their lives. Only through uprisings can the poor man get through.

I've always thought there should be a "none of the above" choice. If that gets over 50% of the vote - and I'm certain it would - they have to toss the bums out, and get 1 month to try again. If that one goes the same, the incumbent gets another 1/2 term, and they play the game again.

Imagine the dismay of both parties having spent all that money for nothing and no real good choices. Eventually, they'd learn.

It does not matter if Obama had no experience at all or not, but McCain has grenade fragments in part of his body, was a POW and I bet must have Rambo syndrome and not even Viagra works for him, plus his Barbie wife is just plain ridiculous... By the way lets not forget the Daddy Yankee campaign to get the hispanics vote, LOL! Mega Ghetto.

But I did not vote, for me its a circus parade either or, I end it with Viva La Republica Federal, Viva Mejico, LOL!

What could possibly make you think the Dems won't go nuts? Thankfully no supermajority yet but look out if they get that in two years! Already the "bipartisan" president elect has made nothing but partisan choices in the people he's surrounding himself with.

Like I said, my State legislature is already making anouncements and decisions and they aren't even sworn into office or in session yet!

I hope to hell I'm wrong about Obama. If he ends up being productive in national and international fronts and a good leader I'll be elated and eat crow happily.

I was just wondering how many people are second guessing themselves now that the reality of "change" vs the emotion of it is starting to settle in.

I just don't know if this going to be the start of something great or the beginning of the end for our country. The big issues of security, wealth and health. We'll see how it goes with the new leadership.

Anyone who thinks it can't get any worse simply isn't creative enough.

Good idea! Really how do we fix a broken govt? I honestly feel our best interests are not what's at heart for the majority of elected officials on either side of the aisle.

Hate to say anything to contradict you but the Black vote would have gone to any black candidate that wasn't a complete fruitcake. He didn't have to be as good a candidate as he was. You don't get well over 90% of the vote of a particular race of people and not have the candidates race be the predominant reason for that vote.

If McCain had gotten 90+% of the white vote, racism would have been screamed from the rooftops and riots would have broken out.

No I dont regret my vote (voted for McCain) but while there isnt a damn thing I like about Obama IMO it is still waaaaayyyy to early for anyone to feel regret.

Nothing wrong with a difference of opinion.
Of course I have to acknowledge his race certainly helped him get votes from that demographic but I still think it's selling people short to believe they would have voted for anyone purely because of race. Palin certainly did not bring a wave of female votes to the republicans.
