So I was going home from work last night and this accord was ******* with me. so I accelerated to 130 and left him in the dust(that was nice. never been able to do that in a car that was actually mine before) When I got off the freeway I went to roll down my passenger window and it only went down an inch or so.

man I really hate fixing windows

not really an info gathering thread, just wanted to vent and am also curious if this has happened to anyone else

was the top down and windows closed or one window open the other closed with top up. A major pressure differential would dislodge the window a bit., This is the first i have heard of this though

nboth driver and passenger window were closed top up but I dont really have a back window to speak of, so it was zipped down. maybe that caused a problem?

I came from a VW where its pretty much guaranteed that if you own one for a good majority of its lifetime you WILL be replacing the power window regulators on ALL the windows. This was back when I didn't work on my car so it was $1200 to replace all the window regulators on my 97 Jetta... and of course all the failures were equally spaced out every 3 months

Anyways... I don't think I've ever read anything about the windows in a miata failing like that.

I had 11 window regulators on my jetta. 4 in my TT.


If you did break a window regulator, you might consider the A-1 electric kit. It was $200 and I've been happy with it for 2 years.

i've had the cables of the window regulators go bad a couple times in a miata. it's actually quite common for the driver side. so there's my guess, frayed cable

i had my driver side window go down but not come back up the other day, i was afraid that i would have to start digging into the door, but checked the switch in the console first. Some black charring or something had deposited on the electrodes and when cleaned off works like a champ. but for you i'd make sure its all still on the rails first

4.30 rear end makes anything over 120 pretty tough. Not sure what rpm i'm turning at 120 though.

Although going this fast on a highway is completely retarded, I maxed out up north in Wisconsin last year at 128(GPS) 132(Indicated). I just had an intake and cat back. Oh yeah the top was down too.

well i think i was going 130, ok it was probably more like 125 but I know it was at least that.

perhaps I had a little of that "you should have seen the fish I caught last weekend" syndrome. sorry

**** for all I know the window breaking had nothing to do with my speed, but it was working fine before work when I rolled them up(manual cranks) did nothing with them after work, got home, the car smelled like garlic(I work at an italian restaurant) so I tried to roll the window down and no dice.

thinking about going power windows now, but the car is so damn small I dont know if theres a point. I will probably make my decision based on price, since a couple of extra pounds dont really matter to me

It was actually in a school zone right as school was getting out, the 20mph signs were even on.

pull off the door panel, there is a little clip around the window cable that pops out of it's hole and allows the cable to interfere with the window. At least that's what the problem was on my NB. Figure a way to re-attach it securely and you won't have an issue anymore. My solution involved 3 zipties, and some phenegling

From time to time, spray silicon lubricant in your window tracks (the ones on the triangular window). It will keep your **** from sticking and breaking cables.

Get some white lithium spray grease, take off your door panels, and spray the ACTUAL window tracks (where the rollers roll). This'll make your window operation as smooth as butter and you'll impress the drive-through lady with the speed at which your window rolls down lol.
