Default My newb post

I've been lurking around on here for a month or two and have finally decided to start posting. Anyway I bought my miata back in November so I am still pretty much a newb with them. The miata came with an older Bell Engineering kit on it pushing 5.5psi and so far I haven't done much to it other then replace the fuel pump with a walbro 190lph pump. It has 120k miles on it and other then the normal lifter tick seems to be in pretty good shape. Eventually I'd like to push it up to around 10psi but I'm not in a big hurry. Right now I have some things I need to do to my van.

Haven't gotten around to making a page for the miata yet but there are pics in there along with some scans of the paper work that came with it.

Welcome to the world of having your car called gay, and then watching the same people stick their foots in their mouths when you walk off on their cars.

I have been through 2 incidents in OK where I thought hill billies were going to kill me. I've also been spit on once, and constantly get heckled.

Thats pretty bad. I haven't ran into anything like that yet. Even my friends haven't really given me much of a hard time about it other then a few jokey comments. I'm old enough now that I really don't care what other people think or I wouldn't have been driving a beat up old minivan for most of the last 5 years. The miata is the nicest car I have owned so far.

I had a buddy who had a turbo Caravan at one time... small upgrades, basically just a fuel pump, AFPR, injectors, intercooler, MBC and LSD. Showed me a dyno sheet one time that blew me away. He made about 250whp, but like 400ftlbs... something about a modified torque converter (I can't remember). He ran high 12's all day on a 200k mile engine.

I'm not sure the exact specs on the early Bell kits, but I see an MSD, IC, AFPR, and you've got a Walbro 190hp. I'd say you need to verify what injectors you've got in there and upgrade if needed... but I don't see why you couldn't just dial up the fuel pressure and run 10psi of boost as is sits if you've got the injectors for it. On Monday, call Corky at bellengineering.net and see what he thinks about dialing up the boost a little. Seriously, a manual boost controller @10-11psi and some 310cc injectors will probably get you 200whp. I saw the dyno sheet... making 162whp on 5.5psi is a good tune! An 02 clamp would be a good idea as well.

The 2.5l engines in TI turbo dodges, which is what the vans run, have a large 4" stroke and the sohc heads don't breath very well so they make a lot torque and not a lot hp. Mines probably making 200hp and 300ft-lbs of torque as it sits atm but I haven't been back to the track since the engine rebuild and 5th injector install to see what it will run. Best I did before was 10 flat at 70mph in the 1/8th mile with a 2.4 60ft at 11 psi. My time wasn't very impressive but the 70mph wasn't too bad. Right now its running 16psi so even with no traction I'd like to see at least a 9.7 but I really need a better intercooler, more fuel, and more boost before it will do anything impressive.

With the miata I really want to get a wideband before I push it any higher. I'm still pretty happy with it's performance as is and I always seem to have something else I need to spend cash on. I'll get around to it eventually though.
