That's not entirely true. They claim to have the capability, but they have never proven it to anyone outside of NK. Only thing detected was a seismic event, which I guess could be "proof". If they do have nukes, you can bet they don't pack much punch.

What is IMPORTANT is the range of the ICBM that the nuke is put in. Now in that case, you are probably very correct in saying that its not sophisticated, and relatively low to medium range.
Bring china into the picture, and we have a lot of other problems.
I think its completely bogus that we use nukes as an excuse, many dictators have had nukes and none have used them. The thing is, many if not all dictators are owned by a more powerful country. Its how they get there usually (with the help of said country). Considering total annihilation is the likely response from the rest of the world and/or the loss of said ally, most (all so far, unless you count the US as a dictatorship) dictators will be happy with prostitutes, tons of money, and practically unchallenged ability to command everyone in a whole country as a happy compromise.
I have no doubt that if a nuke is launched or detonated again, it will have a superpower behind it. Whether north korea starts it with support from china, or another imperialistic power and its follower country, makes no difference in the end.

Well, my main point was, even though they are indeed bat **** crazy, I don't see them as great of a threat as some other countries currently. If they do have nukes, they are weak ****, and like you said, they don't have the means to get them very far beyond their own borders. I'm not shaking in my boots. Maybe they will try to launch one and it will malfunction and they will blow up Pyongyang. Then the people can be freed.
I've seen/read that some people think the capability of the nuke they may have detonated would only be a fraction of the power of "Little Boy". So maybe if they could get it to a major city outside of their country, they might kill a few thousand people, then Pyongyang would be an impact crater within minutes or hours. Even with their craziness, I'm sure they have enough sense to realize that.

Also, weak **** like comparing a pipe bomb built by a non shoe wearing redneck in a shed, to a MOAB. (while we are talking about air bust ordinance, kind of)

Even if a nuclear weapon was "Weak ****", pardon me for saying this NA6C, but...
I'd rather avoid the "weak ****" nuclear weapon blowing up in my back yard. Or even in the same country as me. Japan is still having issues with the bombs we dropped on it, and they were "Weak ****". The huge issues Japan faced with them, at least from my understanding of it, were not the initial damage, but the later affects of the bomb. These spread out in a much wider radius than the initial explosion, multiplying the affects of the nukes several fold at least.

Well of course. Again. I'm saying in comparison with other bombs, anything they could muster would be "weak ****". Even a weak **** nuke is still a big problem for a lot of people. This I understand. But yet again, in terms of what they could have, both in explosive capacity, and in delivery system, is weak ****. I'd be far more worried with their large chemical weapons cache. With those crazies, they could make Saddam look like your favorite uncle Saddam, who wears the ugly Christmas sweater and smokes a pipe. I wouldn't for a second doubt that they could and would use them on their own people, especially if a power struggle occurs between the military and Lil Kim.

Nuclear weapons have a certain....call it press deterrent value. The resulting panic from even a "weak ****" nuclear device being used, even if the total damage is 1/100th of the chemical weapon damage, would result in a global panic the world hasn't seen in decades.
The actual damage done will hold little relevance to what people do when they panic. And the resulting damage done to societies when people hand over whole new sets of power to politicians that the politicians shouldn't have in the panic.
(Edit) Goddamnit so much. In that case, the enemy wouldn't be North Korea. It would be our politicians. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck....
