Default Moving to Houston - Looking for neighborhood advice

Looks like I'll be transferring to Houston around the end of this month. I know we have quite a few guys on here that are from that area. I'm looking for some advice on where I should look for a house. I want to rent for a year or two before I buy. Definitely need a 2 car garage, and prefer to be in a decent neighborhood, but don't want to spend much more than $1000/mo on rent. I'll be working at the corner of Rankin and Aldine Westfield (in between Bush airport and the Hardy Toll Rd)

From just browsing rental listings and google street views, Spring looks pretty good. Lots of houses for rent in my price range with garages, and close to work which is a big plus (I hate traffic). I've been told I should check out Humble and Kingwood as well, but haven't got around to it yet.

So, any advice?

Stay away from the East (North East, EAST, South EAST) side of town.

Sugarland, Katy are nice. Kingwood is nice but not cheap. Really depends on your price range. My wife and I are starting to look for a house and realizing that we can afford less than we wanted. Houston market has not dropped like other parts of the country have.

BTW you will HAVE to drive in Houston. End of story.

My cousin lived in Humble and Atascocita for many years. Nice area, but I have no idea about pricing.

lol @ living outside the loop. You are pretty much fucked on the north side of town, you're going to pay out the anus. Houston is a very cool town and if you put in a little effort, you'll probably like it. If you treat me like a lady, I'll take you to the best "guts tacos" taco trailer I've ever been to. Those tacos alone make it worth the move.

See you at Corner Pocket.

Ohh yea, I'm definitely looking forward to the food. The food in WV sucks donkey *****. Their idea of flavorful food here is freshly killed squirrel brains. Seriously. I'm not kidding.

If you help me figure out how to keep my car from overheating in the Texas heat I'll not only treat you like a lady, I'll give you a reach around with my callous covered hands after.

Back to the topic at hand: Any thoughts on Spring in particular? It seems to be my best bet.

I'd say Katy if you're working up at the airport, and sugar land if you don't mind a 45 minute commute. It's my fave place in Houston.

I fricking loved living there.

And Hustler: best shitty food place in Houston is Luling city market. Go there and thank me.
