Hobbes was perfectly fine all day. I can't of any signs that something was wrong. He slept-in with us, he hung out with in my office while I played online in the morning, he followed me around the house and played with the broom while I swept, he chased me up and down the stairs like normal.

We went out to dinner at 7pm, and got home right around 9. He was drooling, and looked ill, and when he saw us he started crying. We rushed him over to the animal hospital and they were never really able to stabilize him. His body temp was low and his blood-pressure was very low. His blood showed metabolic acidosis but after fluids he only was still worsening. He eventually stopped breathing while we held and pet him around 2am.

I'm so scared it's something environmental and Pookie's next. They were thinking it was kidney failure, either disease or infection or toxin.
Cats are very good at hiding health problems like that. Malcho was the same way. She was healthy, always around us until she wasnt and then 2 days later she was no where to be found.. in 4 days she lost half of her weight. She used to be 12lb, got down to 7lb in 4 days. Did Hobbes have jaundice?

Either way man sorry for your loss man.

No. he was totally normal. No weight loss, no eating loss, no behavior change. He was only 9 years old.

With Belle there was retrospect, she lost weight and stopped eating but we really didnt pick up on it. Hobbes seemed totally normal and we had a good day together.

here's how we would play like every night for the last few weeks:

let's try that again.

https://goo.gl/photos/KiE9o2yso4GHS6uy9

I took the above video on Mar 29. We were doing that at least 2-3 nights a week to get excercise and confidence building. Belle had really put him in his place and he was getting restless/anxious without her around. He was getting more kitten like by the day when I started focusing on playing with him more regularly.

some of you might remember this video of him as a kitten:

I would have to hide his toys because he would drag them through the enitre house and bring them up on the bed to play. He also used to have a weird obsession with my wife's scarves and he would pick them out of the closet and drag them around and sleep on them.

The day we brought him home he was soooo happy and sweet he kept rubbing his dirty mouth all over our faces; something he never stopped doing every night/morning.

he was such a sweet little [big] cat. I was looking forward to sitting more night outside with him on my lap; on eof his favorite things to do.

just got back from vet; took pookie.

she's thinking that hobbes probably developed a blood clot.

Pookie did well; we havent taken him to the vet since we chopped off his *****. Doc absolutely loved him and wanted to take him home with her.

Poor Hobbes. My wife grew up with an orange kitty named Hobbes. Once again I'm sorry for the loss of another of your little fur minions. :(

I'm glad Pookie reacted well to the vet trip and got a clean checkup. Our Annie was a little angel on her first vet trip, probably because she had never been before. We'll see how the second one goes.

I've got a box full of fuzzy alien creatures in my back bedroom that keep staring at me with their huge eyeballs. They make me nervous.

This is the littlest one and it is for some reason the most mobile. Its been scooting around on its belly on the floor but yesterday it actually started to walk upright. That is until it got tired and starts crying for momma to put it back in the box with its siblings. The other 2 fatties just sleep. Its also the only one who gives zero ***** about being scooped up and held as you can see. When I say its the little one, I'm being serious. On Friday when I weighed them they were 340g, 329g and 240g. I got pretty nervous about but s/he has been steadily gaining since so I've been able to relax a little. Weight wise I'd like it to catch up with the others but its obviously developmentally exceeding them so I guess I don't have much to complain about.

I've been looking at maine coons for the past day. I found one i like but unfortunately it has FIV and per the other thread i will be skipping it and waiting for another. Any reason to avoid female kitties?

My last female kitten wasnt spayed and every month was sleeping pill day. Are spayed females more..normal? lol

Adult spayed females are probably the calmest kitties around, IME.

Just make sure they don't spay the female too early.
A lot of places have started doing the procedure when they are just 6 weeks old so that they can already be fixed when they are adopted as kittens. There is no reason to have it done so early other than convenience. I think in the long run it's much better for the cat if it's done after they have matured a bit more. It used to be like 6 months or so.

Have your cats fixed. male or female.

We specifically want more female cats in the house again.

My vet would not spay or neuter any of my 4 new kittens until they were at least 6 months old. He was not a fan of the local shelters who would do it earlier so the kittens could get out. Out of the 4 kittens I got all 4 are extremely playful. They are all extremely laid back and will let you rub anywhere on them and love it. I think most of that is because all 4 grew up together and we were very hands on with them as soon as we got them.

Cinder was my black-and-white kitty, he passed away from cancer a couple years ago:

We still have his gray-and-white brother, Smoke. He will be 16 this summer, but he's blind now. :( He's very cuddly though, and his favorite thing to do is sit in laps.

They are Miata kitties -- got them as kittens from Zandr (who used to run the miatapower mailing list), they came home from Boulder Creek in the passenger seat of my Miata.
