Default Holy Toyota!

I didn't realize such little boost (claimed 11psi) could make so much power. "it could use 900's" injectors?!

High powered scion

Maybe it's just me not knowing much about Toyota motors but that seems like alot. Truthfully idk what size motors a TC has but I'd think a 1.8 maybe a 2.4 which I could see making these #'s.

You do realize that boost (in psi) is different for every turbo right? 11psi on a 2554 is not the same as 11psi on a 3071. This guy never says in the thread what turbo he's running. But what he does say is that he's had head work done and he's using meth. I don't see why these numbers wouldn't be possible at all on a 2.4l.

I thought he was running a lot more boost, like 19lbs from the first post (2nd paragraph, 3rd sentence). He was asked on page 3 if the boost levels were the same, he said yes.

Plus, wasn't he running meth with the tune?

Still quite impressive. I was talking to one of my Subaru buddies and they had a WRX (2.5 liter) on the dyno yesterday at TurboXS. Put down 500whp (Dynopack dyno) at ~23lbs of boost, IIRC. So, similar displacement (2.4 liter vs 2.5), but the Subaru's motor is slightly built. However, the charge has a longer distance to travel thanks to the layout of the exhaust and turbo location....

TC motors must be badass. That's a high number compared to other 2.4 Liters. I know 240's can go to about 300 at 11 psi.

You have to consider that the engine tech is much newer than the 240 too.

This talk of X power at Y boost without mentioning the size of the turbo needs to stop.

I have a Civic friend who made 300whp at 6psi on a 1.6. But that was with an SC61.

Anybody ever driven a tC? They are heavy and slow, and the engine is a souless **** stain of an engine.
Its not a good engine, its a low reving, low performance, economy engine.
Making 400hp on 18 psi with with what is likely a very large turbo is not impressive at all for a 2.4L engine.

417whp on FWD? That must be interesting.

It's still no SRT-4

The SRT-4, driven properly, can actual travel back in time. It can cause a tear in the space-time-continuum.

It's that fast.

Well if it can do that on a stock engine than it is pretty damn badass. Even if it is booaring our engines aint that great without the power to weight. Wow i'm a rapper

1.6L miata makes 90rwhp. Add 10psi, assuming 10hp per psi = 100 more hp. Then 1.6L now makes 190hp.

2.4L makes 160hp. add 10psi, assuming assuming 10hp per psi = 100 more hp. Then 2.4L now makes 260hp.

cool huh?

The idea of a big lazy turbo that makes tons of power with a low pressure ratio seems to come up periodically in any car community. For awhile you saw a decent number of guys in various apps going to low AR T4 setups (like .54 with a pretty mild wheel) and then just running less boost than they would with a T3. The low IATs/backpressures are tempting and the psychology is similar to the idea of a built engine: If I have this thing capable of 8 bajillion HP and I only make 350, then I am bullet-proof. And a T4 setup right will actually spool fairly well in relation to say a 35R. Honda guys do this type of thing all the time because they have a pretty high ceiling to work with and are often on pretty ghetto setups that really need to be protected from detonation. A big lazy cool turbo will make the power "safer" at the expense of some response that lots of guys dont really give a crap about anyway. Lag is meaningless in a straight line race as long as you can drive even sorta well.

The thing is, a big lazy turbo on a 1.6L miata isn't so lazy on a 2.4L TC.

That said, were I to turbo my TC I would just want a smaller turbo, like a Evo8 16G or something. Like the one I sold Splitime. Something to provide instant on demand power.

But no matter what there is still going to be a small amount of lag, and don't even get me started on boost threshold. Waste of time IMO. What happens when you miss a shift and go to 5th instead of 3rd?!?!? You need that power at 1200rpm that's what. heheh.

If I was going to turbo a 2.4L it would be a Nissan Stanza. /thread.
